Job Responsibilities

Key member of the Construction Team, reporting to VP of Design & Construction, providing Design & Construction Management support in the following areas:

  • Support new store development and construction
  • Design & create layouts and renderings for proposed and existing stores
  • Research local municipal codes and regulations for selected market and active construction projects and work with the city officials on permits, occupancies etc.
  • Maintain regular communication with the team, contractors, franchisees, trades, vendors, and all other stakeholders for each project to ensure effective coordination of construction activities
  • Prepare and review tracking, inputting, maintaining and updating all relevant information including quotes, invoices, Development Cost Summary, SBL, status reports and timelines documentation
  • Prepare and review project documents for RFQ’s, Tenders, Bid Summaries, quotes, invoices, Development Cost Summary, SBL etc. and all other construction related documents
  • Create and manage liquor license layouts, fire plans, décor layouts and renderings
  • Manage and co-ordinate equipment/chattels for store opening, & troubleshoot as required
  • Review and manage contractor Construction Execution Plans, work scopes and schedules including cost control, change orders, site progress, payments
  • Complete final construction checks/ walk through and deficiencies with contractors
  • Continuously update the construction manual as required
  • Ensure compliance with all corporate procedures and legal guidelines
  • Some travel required
  • Administrative tasks and any other duties assigned by VP of Construction

Qualifications

  • A Degree/Diploma in Architecture, Engineering, Building Technology, Construction Management, Interior Design, or a related field preferred
  • 2-3 years project coordination experience within the restaurant & franchise industry preferred
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fundamental understanding of the development, design and construction industries including processes, procedures, drawings and permits
  • A proven ability of consistently completing projects on time and within budget objectives
  • Strong ability to manage challenging situations and people under tight timelines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, field drawings and plans
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and related Building Codes with a thorough and in-depth understanding of the OBC
  • Preferred on-site construction trade coordination and management experience
  • Preferred experience reviewing construction contracts and trade negotiations
  • A team-oriented approach to meeting goals and objectives
