The Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds is a non-profit, environmental organization whose mandate is to deliver projects and programming to protect, improve and sustain ground and surface water quality for urban and rural communities across Saskatchewan

We are seeking to hire a Program Director to join our team. This is a permanent, senior position. The Program Director will be responsible for implementing and achieving Watershed Saskatchewan’s programming priorities. They will coordinate with a wide variety of staff, external partners, federal, provincial and municipal governments and landowners in support of watershed stewardship goals. The Program Director should have familiarity with and practical experience with a subset or a wide range of conservation programming (e.g., watershed planning, stewardship BMPs etc.). They will lead the implementation of programming to achieve stewardship outcomes across Saskatchewan. In this role, the Program Director will be responsible for managing program budgets, supervising staff, preparing progress reports, and ensuring smooth functionality of operations as it relates to programing deliverables and the organization’s strategic objectives.

PROGRAM DIRECTOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE:

  • Project management skills – plan, direct, schedule, and strategize to achieve program goals.
  • Create budgets, guidelines, and other business-related documents for each program.
  • Select and assign team members to program/projects.
  • Recruit and supervise District Managers.
  • Report programming progress to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
  • Draft and complete program reports for partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
  • Leading or assist with fundraising for projects.
  • Design strategic direction for programming.
  • Ensure smooth running of operations.
  • Frequently make strategic decisions based on analysis of information and context.
  • Collaborate effectively with external partners to accomplish program goals.
  • Negotiate complex agreements in a political environment.
  • Work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Frequently travel domestically; may require evening and weekend hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in natural resources management, conservation, business, law or another related field of study, and at least 5 years experience in land conservation, agriculture, environmental science, stewardship, law, business or related field.
  • Proficient at using project management software. This should include knowledge of Microsoft, email and virtual software, and mobile devices.
  • A firm understanding of the non-profit sector and how non-profits operate.
  • Have a forward-thinking mindset, strategic experience, and planning skills.
  • Experience working with a wide range of people, such as landowners, corporate executives, and government officials.
  • Experience supervising multiple staff in remote locations.
  • Experience implementing complex programs.
  • Experience in developing and managing multiple projects and timelines.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Goal-driven, organized, and efficient.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree is appreciated.
  • Knowledge of current trends and strategies in watershed stewardship.
  • Project management skills.
  • Strong team player who can build relationships and work collaboratively across a dispersed organization and with partners.
  • Clear written and spoken communication in English.

LOCATION:
Position will be located in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. However, there is the potential for flexibility in workplace arrangements dependent on the successful applicant’s qualifications.
