POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Operations – Canada, the Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of the assigned areas of the Plant. The position is responsible for providing guidance and mentorship to the Production Managers to coordinate all safety, quality and production activities in accordance with Company safety, quality, production and housekeeping policies, procedures, and standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead a zero-incident safety culture: ensure that all safety concerns are addressed in a pro-active manner, appropriate corrective actions are applied, daily safety hazard assessments are competed. Ensure execution of the modified duties and GRTW programs.
  • Be an exemplary role model of the Company’s culture of trust, integrity and resilience, while cultivating high-performing teams, and encourage teamwork through guidance and mentorship.
  • Ensure all Production staff within the assigned area are properly trained to meet safety, production and quality targets.
  • Inform Production Managers of the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly operations priorities, communicate any changes in priorities in a timely manner.
  • Analyze applicable key performance indicators and make recommendations in regard to manpower and equipment to optimize efficiencies. Make decisions based on the key metrics including safety, quality, production, and scrap.
  • Oversee the operating cost analysis on a regular basis to ensure adherence to budget objectives and recommend corrective actions where necessary when variances occur.
  • Take a leading role in the recruitment process and selection decisions for internal and external openings within the assigned area.
  • Conduct performance and talent reviews as per existing programs.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to the Production Managers when applying disciplinary actions for non-compliances with the Company’s policies and procedures.
  • Handle formal union grievances at Step 2 as needed within the timelines indicated in the Collective Agreement.
  • Execute plant shutdowns, including plant evacuation in the event of an emergency.
  • Partner with Customer Service, Production Planning and Shipping regarding details of production orders in process.
  • Recommend, help develop and implement production improvements to enhance productivity and facilitate higher efficiencies.
  • Collect feedback from the Production Managers for major alterations to production methods, processes or facilities with the Engineering team and make appropriate recommendations to the Director, Operations – Canada.
  • Work with Production Managers and Chargehands in approving plantwide vacations.
  • Recommend items to be included in the annual capital budgets for the Richmond facility.
  • Lead development and implementation of production and inventory control systems and procedures.
  • Inform Director, Operations – Canada of problems or important matters relative to the Richmond facility.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 to 7 years of manufacturing experience with increasing responsibilities.
  • Post-secondary courses related to Operations Management. A degree in Engineering is a definite asset
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Proven success at driving a strong safety culture into the workplace
  • Leadership experience in a unionized environment
  • Lean manufacturing mindset. Formal Six Sigma training is a definite asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Time management and planning skills
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of QAD in an integrated computer environment.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 policies and procedures.
