DevOps Specialist - New Grad

What You’ll Be Doing

At Pythian Open Source Database (OSDB) Database Consultants are technically astute open source enthusiasts who are excited about cloud computing and are part of a global team charged with delivering world class services to our customers. On our OSDB programme you’ll create the best environments for our customers’ projects, you’ll make sure products remain available once they’re deployed to production and be involved in scaling applications and environments. You’ll learn a lot at Pythian, you’ll spend your first few weeks understanding reliability engineering principles and learning what it takes to be a OSDB Database Consultant. Going forward with our guidance, you’ll put your newly acquired skills into practice on live projects.

• The initial training will provide you with the learning and tools you need to contribute more effectively before you start in the workplace for ‘on the job’ training.
• You will build your experience, working with colleagues supporting and enhancing products and services for Pythian and our customers.
• Observability & App Monitoring
• Data Protection & Data Security
• MySQL, Mongo, and Cassandra Operations and Security
• Application Containerisation
• Infrastructure as Code
• Database High Availability and Scalability
• Database and Query Performance and Optimization
• Continuous integration and continuous delivery, and the tools we use at PythianAt the end of the program you will be able to call yourself a true OSDB Database Consultant.
  

What We’re Looking For

• Have recently (or are about to graduate with) a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
• Can write code and solve complex problems, with ability to develop scripted software i.e. using Python, Javascript, GoLang
• Write well-structured, testable code, with a focus on simplicity and maintainability
• Care about quality, not only of the code you write, but of the product you’re building
• Be interested in both frontend and backend development
• Familiarity with pipeline automation and deployment frameworks
• Be comfortable using Public cloud AWS/GCP/Azure cloud-related technologies
• Aware of Agile methodologies
• Have passion for software and technology
• Have an enthusiasm for working directly with users to build and deliver the right features
• Have an innate desire to learn and improve your Software Engineering skills
