About the role:

Greenpeace Canada (GPC) is seeking an Mobilization Campaigner in Montreal to work within the campaign team, as delegated by the Head of Actions and Offline Mobilization. Relationship building is central to this role that supports and strengthens a network of supporters, volunteers and local groups to ensure that campaign tactics, events, actions (non-violent direct actions, photo opportunities and protests) and other forms of activities are planned and executed successfully.

They are also responsible for designing and delivering offline organizing strategies with impact to help advance campaigns. Working closely with our Local Groups, campaigners and our digital team, Mobilization Campaigners understand how to engage people on important issues and how to make that engagement count. The Montreal-based Mobilization Campaigner will work on campaigns that are active across the country.

In addition, the Mobilization Campaigner is responsible for implementing trainings, and assisting in the development of Greenpeace’s capacity to be innovative, confrontational and inspirational.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In cooperation with campaign teams, Communications, Digital, Operations teams and other colleagues within the Actions and Mobilization team, to contribute to the implementation of organizational strategies and plans.
  • Strengthen, broaden and diversify Greenpeace Canada’s network of offline supporters and develop opportunities for engagement.
  • Support the Greenpeace local groups in Quebec as the main point of contact, as well as work with the national local group network.
  • Ensure the integration of mobilization activities into campaign strategies as appropriate, by working in close collaboration with other staff as part of cross-functional campaign and project teams.
  • Contribute to the design, development and implementation of supporter engagement projects that will help achieve Greenpeace campaign objectives, and impact social change.
  • Recruit, screen, motivate, engage, train and supervise volunteers and local groups. Maintain a volunteer database.
  • Organize meetings and participation events. Follow through, evaluate and report after meetings and events.
  • Represent Greenpeace publicly at events, with community organizations, and in coalitions.
  • Promote support within Greenpeace and to the public to advance campaign goals by acting as a spokesperson.
  • Develop materials such as correspondence, orientation packages, toolkits and information for the website, social media platforms etc.
  • Other duties as required.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and social justice issues;
  • Knowledge of campaign techniques, strategies and practices and the principals of social movement and engagement organizing;
  • Experience recruiting, engaging, training and organizing diverse groups of volunteers, allies and collaborators;
  • Proven skill in analyzing campaign strategies, designing actions and anticipating ramifications;
  • High level of professionalism while representing an organization, managing conflict, and maintaining work relationships;
  • Experience setting and adhering to priorities in a volatile and ever-changing context;
  • Demonstrated analytical skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills, as well as strong listening abilities;
  • Extremely fine-tuned organizational, computer, administrative and time management skills;
  • Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives with sometimes limited supervision, yet participate effectively as part of a team;
  • Flexible, collaborative personality;
  • Bilingualism in French and English is a necessity;
  • Indigenous language skills are very desirable. Additional language skills reflecting the diversity of Canada’s communities are also an asset.

You will work with colleagues across Canada and collaborate with other Greenpeace offices around the world.

Candidates should understand and support the Greenpeace campaign tactics, including the use of peaceful civil disobedience.
