Reporting to the Manager of Microelectronics Engineering, the Opto-Mechanical Designer will be responsible for the opto-mechanical design and the development of assembly and manufacturing methods for those modules, in co-operation with the Manufacturing team. An excellent understanding and a proven performance in optical alignment processes and micro-mechanical or opto- mechanical design are required.

• Opto-mechanical design of hermetic hybrids.
• Opto-mechanical design of single and multiple fibre optical port with or without lens.
• Generates figures and sketches (CAD 3D) for tenders to customers and product and component documentation.
• Designs according to current and potential manufacturing processes capabilities.
• Identifies, improves and develops new assembly methods to improve production yield, and enhanced product performance.
• Develops assembly methods in compliance with the Safe Use of Lasers (ANSI Z-136.1), clean room and ESD requirements.
• Design, qualification support, and production support of hybrids, regarding vibration, mechanical shock, thermal shock, thermal cycling, optical properties.
• Evaluation of customer requirements versus existing capabilities and new processes to be developed.
• Selection of adhesives, silicone, soldering materials associated with compact electro-optics hybrids assembly.
• Participates in engineering, customer design reviews and estimates.
• Prepares and performs product, methods validation plans, including actual measurements.
• Documents design, new assembly methods and procedures, in collaboration with the industrial methods department.
• Issues purchase orders for required parts and material.
• Coordinates the new procedures transfer into production.
• Supports production for transferred procedures.
• Programs optical coordinate measurement machine, according to various dimensional requirements
• Qualifications*
• Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in opto-mechanics or related field
• Experience and abilities associated with the above-mentioned responsibilities.
• Applied knowledge of GD&T
• Good command of CAD 3D Solid Works, knowledge of finite elements, Microsoft Office.
• Knowledge of adhesives, silicone, soldering materials associated with compact electro-optics hybrids assembly.
• Good communication abilities
• Bilingual (French and English)
• Cleared for ITAR Product
• Assets*
• Knowledge of Civil/Military Spec Standards MIL-PRF-38534, MIL-STD-883 and IPC, ANSI Z-136.1.
• Knowledge of Solidworks Flow Simulation Analysis package
• Knowledge of micro opto-electronics products manufacturing processes
