BC Timber Sales (BCTS)manages about 20 per cent of the province’s allowable annual cut forCrown timber,generating economic prosperity for British Columbians through the safe, sustainable development and auction of Crown timber. BCTS operates in 33 communities and directly supports over 8,000 jobs across B.C.

Data from our operations are used to help determine the market value of the timber harvested from public land and ensures British Columbiansreceive fairvalue from their timber resources.

BCTS also supports government’s commitment to true, lasting reconciliation with First Nations in BCas we move toward fully adopting and implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

BCTS Has Three Objectives Supporting Its Goal

The goal of BCTS is to provide credible representative price and cost benchmark data for the market pricing system through auctions of timber harvested from public land in BC.
  • Objective 1:Sell the full BCTS apportionment over the business cycle, consistent with safe practices, sustainable forest management, and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.
  • Objective 2:Generate direct net revenue and indirect revenue for the Province over the business cycle.
  • Objective 3:Continuous business improvement - within BCTS, across government and with third parties.

The Indigenous Relations Liaison works within the BCTS business area to develop and maintain positive relationships with Indigenous Peoples to advance BCTS’ business principle dedicated to true and lasting reconciliation. The position works directly with Indigenous Peoples and BCTS staff to plan and facilitate legal consultation processes (i.e., preparation, engagement, accommodation, decision and follow-up) consistent with legal requirements, reconciliation and relationship building, and supports senior staff in negotiation and implementation of business-to-business and relational agreements that contribute to effective and durable relationships with Indigenous Peoples.

Vernon is Surrounded by rolling grasslands with rocky outcrops and stands of ponderosa pine and Douglas fir, its three lakes and mountain views in every direction command attention. Job Requirements

In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirements as outlined below:
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as professional (i.e. Registered Professional Forester) with the British Columbia association as required by the specialty area, and 2 years of experience related to natural resource or Indigenous Peoples relationship management. Registered Forest Technologist do not qualify as professionals under this classification series.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Provisos
  • Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours with limited notice, including evenings and weekends.
  • Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and/or rotary winged aircraft and/or watercraft.
Preference May Be Given To Candidates With The Following
  • Experience with contract management.
  • Experience or education in forestry or natural resource management.
  • Experience or education related to Indigenous Peoples relationship management.
  • Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues.
