Job Description


As the Lead Engineer, Alternative Investment Engineering, you will be responsible for building and evolving end-to-end technology solutions for the Alternative Investment business groups including Real Assets, Private Equity, and Credit Investments. The initial focus will be with the Private Equity engineering group focusing on implementing a deal pipeline and customer relationship management system along with enahancements of other Private Equity analytics and asset management systems.

Reporting to the Manager of Alternative Investment Engineering, and in partnership with peer Technology & Data team and a variety of business departments, this role will have a unique opportunity to work as part of a multi-year initiative transforming our technology landscape in the Alternative Investment space in order to support CPPIB 2025 Technology and Data Strategy. You will see the unique engineering challenges faced by one of the largest global institutional investors and apply cutting-edge technologies to inform very large investment decisions.

To be successful in this role, you need to have solid experiences in delivering scalable full-stack engineering solutions, implementing and managing vendor systems, meeting business needs and aligning with architectural best practices and Technology & Data strategy. You will also need to build a strong understanding of existing processes and how to apply best engineering practices to reduce operational costs, improve operational efficiency by simplifying and scaling up the technology solutions.

Role-Specific Accountabilities:

  • Design and build robust, resilient and scalable technical solutions by working closely with peer Technology & Data teams and our business partners
  • Implement and support a 3rd party deal pipeline and CRM product including developing custom middleware to integrate with both in-house and vendor solutions in the capacity of team lead working with a group of 3 to 5 software developers
  • Drive software delivery through prototyping exercises to solicit early user feedback and discover appropriate solutions
  • Take initiative to improve the way we do things, and to ensure that we work smart and build quality into everything we do
  • Effectively unit test and perform integration testing on software components.
  • Help foster a positive team environment and maintain a good relationship with our business partners and peer teams in Technology and Data
  • Provide troubleshooting support on a rotational basis

Qualifications
  • A proactive, high energy attitude with a history of implementing quality code and best practice
  • Excellent communication, attention to details and relationship management skills, with an ability to naturally influence others and sell ideas effectively to stakeholders at various levels
  • 5+ years of experience as technology lead driving full stack development including front-end and backend (e.g. Angular, TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, Tableau, databases) with strong mindsets in DevOps and Agile delivery approach
  • 5+ years of experiences in designing, building and delivering cloud-based applications on AWS
  • Solid hands-on experiences in cloud-native design, event-based microservices architecture
  • Experiences in front-end development (Angular, micro-frontend design)
  • Knowledge and experience working with QlikView is a bonus
  • Results driven, effectively manage expectations and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Business domain knowledge and experience in the Credit Investment preferred
  • Solid tracking records to challenge status quo and continuously drive system and process improvements
  • University degree in Engineering or Computer Science preferred
  • Commitment to CPP Investments’ guiding principles of integrity, partnership and high performance
