Permanent Full-Time, Intermediate Financial Analyst

Position Objective

Reporting to the Manager, Accounting and Budgets, the Intermediate Financial Analyst is responsible for the preparation of accurate and timely financial information for various programs of the Niagara Health System, including financial statements and various other reports. Strong analytical and communication skills are required, as well as the ability to work independently. To qualify, you must have one to two years of experience as a Financial Analyst, as well as a CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) designation. The willingness to take initiative combined with the ability to work in a pressurized, time sensitive environment makes you our ideal candidate.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Analysis of monthly financial information produced from all financial sources to ensure accuracy. Evaluation of financial data to determine necessary accounting adjustments required for monthly financial statements
  • Monthly & annual reconciling of various balance sheet accounts
  • Provides leadership regarding financial and budget requirements and anticipates information needs and creatively contributes ways to analyze information. Complete regular and ad hoc data request as required by the Niagara Health System management, internal and external groups.
  • Conversion of financial information into meaningful results by trending activities year over year, calculation of rates, comparison of appropriate benchmarks or budget values, determining accuracy, variance to budget.
  • Working with Program Managers, Directors and Statistical Analysts in relating monthly financial performance indicators with clinical performance indicators
  • Provide ongoing support to management through program meetings and daily communication regarding financial information interpretations, issues and problem resolution
  • Provides consultative and analytical support as required to Program Directors, managers, departments, clinical programs, etc.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual submissions of Ministry financial reporting while adhering to MIS hospital specific guidelines
  • Review and analyze current fiscal year financial information to forecast next fiscal year budget requirements and appropriate allocations
  • Meet with program directors and managers to develop annual operating budget.
  • Prepare year-end audit working papers & address inquiries from external auditors
  • Assist Manager of Accounting and Budgets on various ad-hoc projects

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Accounting or Business Administration.
  • Designated accountant - CPA (CA, CMA or CGA) designation required.
  • Minimum of 1 years’ experience in financial analysis.
  • Understanding of GAAP and MIS practices.
  • Experience in financial analysis and interpretation of results including accrued, prepaid, and budget variances.
  • Solid experience with computerized accounting systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment.
  • Strong computer skills required in all Microsoft applications (i.e. Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Evidence of effective organizational, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Consistent and regular attendance required
  • Proficiency in both official languages(English and French) will be considered an asset
