Banff is a town with lots to offer; it’s on every backpacker’s bucket list, both for the amazing unspoiled wilderness and outdoor pursuits of the National Park – and for the renowned reputation of being a great place to work with, live with and party with other young folks from around the world! And there’s no better place to do this than at our hostel.

We’re a team of avid travellers who’ve chosen to work in this place, and this hostel, because we want to be immersed in a culture of other like-minded people who believe in respecting each other, learning about other people’s cultures, and squeeze the best out of our Banff experience.

There’s room for growth and discovery! Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we’re eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles.

Our staff accommodation has everything you need and is extremely affordable, one of the cheapest in town. Add to that we’ve got a fleet of mountain bikes and camping gear for you to borrow to get out and explore even more... not to mention 13 other Mountain Park hostels that you get to stay at for free, so you can expand your explorations to the rest of the parks... or even the rest of Canada... knowing you’ve got a place to sleep and friends to connect with everywhere you go, for free!

What you will be doing as a Food and Beverage Manager

Our property’s F&B operation is a great place for someone with some kitchen supervisory experience to develop their skills into a full-fledged hotel F&B manager. We have a lot of group catering, especially in winter, a small 32-seat restaurant and a 60-person pub - and you’ll be responsible for all aspects of this operation.

What we look for

Ideally, we’d want someone who’s done this already! However, that’s rare in this day and age... so,

At a bare minimum, you’ll need to be a solidly-experienced, fast line cook, who understands the importance of consistency, quality and safe food handling - and preferably you’ll have experience helping with ordering, receiving, menu development, group catering and training/mentoring. An absolute necessity is someone who understands the value of a positive, supportive and cooperative work environment; our team is small and we’re more of a big family than anything else, and we like to be a happy one!

Front-of-house experience is a huge asset, as our bar and restaurant needs to have a leader who can set the tone in terms of service standards and guest experience as well as lead the team to ensure liquor service standards and accuracy of cashouts are in place.

You’ll be involved with everything else in the operation as well, from building the budget to recruiting to marketing the offerings and even approving the bar activities/events, as well - so it’s a very well-rounded position that will look great on a resume and perfect for an up-and-comer who wants to get ready for his or her next big step in the industry.

The position comes with private staff accommodation, a significant perk, so we usually hire someone who requires housing.

Join our community

If everything you read above got you excited, you’ll be a great fit for our team. Whether you’re on a working holiday and this will be a short stop on a longer trip, or you’re looking to stay connected to the hostel lifestyle by working among travellers, this is the kind of place for you.
Our team is made up of people from all over the world who are bound by our shared desire to discover new places. You recognize that what draws you to Banff is what draws our guests here, and you’re committed to working with a team of like-minded people to share the best of Banff and the accessibility of travel with the world.

About HI
We love travelling. To us, travel isn’t just about going places, it’s also about meeting people, discovering cultures, eating new food and most of all, learning how people do things differently than we do back home.
We believe that through hostelling, we become more conscious about the world around us; and we can even make the world a better place. Our mission is to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures through our network of hostels and people.
