A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Associate Vice President, the Director, Enterprise Solutions, provides the visionary and strategic leadership required to oversee the development and maintenance of the Administrative Information Systems, utilizing the technology solutions which best align with the strategic direction of the University. The Director manages a multi-functional, service focused department and provides professional and technical expertise as well as organizing, planning, budgeting, developing, and directing the units within these areas of responsibility. The Director of Enterprise Solutions is also responsible for vendor management, cultivating strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and participating in and implementing strategic IT planning.

As the Director, Enterprise Solutions you will:

  • Coordinate and oversee all elements of a large, multiple-function department (project management, design, development of new systems, maintenance of existing systems, database administration, server administration, security, and application firewall management);
  • Have familiarity with and ensure compliance with applicable employment policies, practices and legislation;
  • Provide prudent fiscal management (capital and operational);
  • Serve as a member for ITS on a variety of committees, project teams and working groups;
  • Establish operational and administrative policies and procedures for implementation;
  • Develop long range plans and provides overall direction to enhance effectiveness. Leads strategic planning process for the department;
  • Manage Enterprise Solutions’ team organization structure to maximize support for academic and administrative departments in collaboration with other ICT teams;
  • Participate in the implementation of the ITS strategic plan in collaboration with the executive team and other IT leaders;
  • Work in conjunction with senior administrators to develop changes in strategic direction to support the University mission and direction including analysing the implications of change and redesigning operational structures and programs. Provides management and human resource analysis/reporting to the AVP;
  • Work with the AVP-ITS, ITS Directors, other senior management and client units to ensure that the systems in use and in development are aligned with the strategic goals of the university;
  • Hire, train, and supervise staff ; plan for the professional development of ITS Enterprise Solutions staff;
  • Plan, organize and direct staff in the effective delivery of ITS Enterprise Solutions’ policies and programs and the effectiveness of services. Develops and promotes new programs based on University needs and strategic goals;
  • Responsible for overseeing all Enterprise Solutions projects effecting the university, including defining the project in respect to objective, scope, requirements, design, timelines and managing tasks and resources;
  • Provide effective communication on the status of projects to the University community involved;
  • Develop and implement appropriate procedures, process, controls, key performance indicators and standards to ensure that ICT enterprise solutions evolve and improve over time;
  • Manage the process of innovative change effectively;
  • Plan, organize and implement security measures to secure University data and solutions;
  • Plan and implement recovery procedures in case of disaster including hardware failure, loss of data and loss of computing center to recover essential systems as identified by the University and AVP;
  • Plan and oversee the growth of the University’s Enterprise Solutions through enhancements, ensuring the maintainability and integrity of systems in accordance with the university’s mission and direction;
  • Investigate and keep informed about new IT developments for academic environments.

What you need to Succeed…

  • Related University Degree;
  • 10 – 15 years of progressive experience in complex IT management positions, preferably in a post-secondary environment;
  • Thorough knowledge of information technology and best practice and in the analysis, design, development, implementation and maintenance of large, complex business applications;
  • Experience in the management of financial resources, preparing and following budgets, preparing proposals, policies, analysis, action plans, and presentations;
  • Highly developed project management skills and the ability to take ownership of the process in order to keep many competing and high priority projects moving forward to a successful completion;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with major stakeholders while exercising judgment, tact and diplomacy;
  • Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Well-developed interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively manage relationships with internal clients, internal and external service providers;
  • Strong client service and customer service skills;
  • Ability to formulate and manage complex processes;
  • Innovative management skills;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Strong human resource management problem solving;
  • Ability to make financial decisions such as preparing budget proposals, determining optimal allocation of resources, and correcting accounting problems and errors;
  • Ability to determine data collection and analysis methods and how to make information most accessible;
  • Through analysis and observation, and in consultation with other staff, ability to determine appropriate policies and procedures and decide how modifications should be proposed and implemented.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Administrative Professional Job level P: $83,925 - $119,530
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage and tuition waiver.

* The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
