ROLE PURPOSE

This position will assist clients living semi independently with their physical, economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and daily life skills development and support them to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the assessment, goal setting and program planning such as (Personal Service Plans) for individuals living semi independently.
  • Specific skills supporting clients with concurrent disorders, substance misuse, and FASD
  • Documents and implements the plan and provides input into the evaluation of the program
  • Evaluates clients’ needs and develops short term plans to meet such needs with the active participation of clients and their families
  • Assists clients to function more independently in their own homes and in the community. Assists clients with daily life skills, social skills and/or behaviour management
  • Recognizes, analyzes and deals with potential emergency situations
  • Accompanies and/or transports clients to activities such as appointments, shopping or leisure activities
  • Provides/maintains either written and/or verbal reports regarding clients’ daily activities and progress
  • Performs other related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma in a related human/social service field
  • Experience with clients with a history of conflict with the law, developmental disabilities and/or spectrum disorders, interaction with social agencies and experiencing psychiatric/personality disorders
  • A demonstrated and clear ability to respond well in crisis situations
  • An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities
  • Demonstrated an ability to deal with potential violence
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or Mandt Certificate
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • A strong desire to work as part of the JHS staff team

REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to successfully complete a Criminal Records Check
  • Current Emergency First Aid Certificate
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Personal transportation that is in good repair, insured for business up to $1,000,000 for liability, and which can be used to transport residents
