The commencement of this position is subject to funding decisions, which are beyond the control of North West College, and
therefore subject to change. This is an in-scope position. Internal applications from NWC staff with seniority will be considered prior

Main Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager of Student Services and Meadow Lake Campus, the Coordinator provides leadership to student
services engagement activities, and provides career, vocational and educational counselling services to College students
and to the general public on an individual or group basis to ensure that clients have access to the information and
resources they need to make appropriate choices about training, education and employment. The Coordinator is
responsible for:

  • Provides career planning, educational and vocational counselling services and related workshopsto College
students and the general public.
  • Counsels University students through the enrollment and course selection processes to ensure University
program compliance.
  • Researches and remains current with education, training and employment trends, labor market information,
occupational responsibilities, salaries, job requirements and future outlook.
  • Assists in creating and delivering the Student Services program design, to meet emerging trends or new
demands and contributes to the College’s strategic plan.
  • Assists in establishing target outcomes, evaluation criteria, delivery methodology, resource, facility and support
requirements and program budget.
  • Assists the recruitment strategy in collaboration with the Student Recruitment Officer.
  • Provide leadership on policy and process in student services and residence.
  • Facilitates and monitors student involvement and engagement within the overall College experience and

provides leadership to the student services team to assist instructors and students in achieving a positive and
successful learning experience.

  • Develops and evaluates the student services team’s delivery of a student life activities plan which empowers
and motivates all students to contribute to improving the collegial environment of the college.
  • Collaborates with other College staff and partners to facilitate program objectives, improve the quality of
programs and enhance the College’s effectiveness and image.
  • Develops and provides support and leadership to all Internationalization strategies.
  • Leads all student service functions dealing with International Students.
  • Plans and leads College wide initiatives associated with student services.
  • Assist in developing and implementing an alumni engagement strategy.
  • Provides leadership and support to the residence team in cases of orientation and student engagement.
  • Performs other responsibilities as may be assigned to contribute to the success of student learning and a

positive participation experience.

Qualifications, Skills, Abilities and Experience:
  • A relevant four-year degree in a human services, behavioral sciences, business administration or related field.
  • Certification in the delivery and interpretation of career assessment tools, or a University certificate in career

counselling that covers the theories of career development, career development resources, and professional
ethics supplemented with practical application of career assessment tools.

  • A combination of relevant education and experience applicable to the position assignment may be considered.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and interpret career counselling tools.
  • Knowledge of the theories of career development and professional ethics in career counselling.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply adult education principles, methodologies and practices.
  • Knowledgeable and competent in strategies to develop a representative workforce.
  • Knowledge of the Saskatchewan education system and protocols.
  • Knowledge of the principles of organizational structure, goals and objectives and strategies.
  • Knowledge of the principles of organizational policies and procedures and collective bargaining agreement
terms.
  • Knowledge of and ability to operate standard word processing, database management, spreadsheet, e-mail
and internet applications.
  • Ability to conceptualize and articulate the relationship of program goals and objectives to corporate strategy to
contribute to program and College success.
  • Ability to organize and align financial resources, program delivery processes and technology to meet program
and corporate plans.
  • Ability to conceptualize and develop program and operational strategies and processes to meet program and
corporate goals and objectives.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and coordinate program delivery and outcomes with others to meet program goals
and objectives.
  • Ability to communicate the vision for changes and contribute to implementation of changes.
  • Ability to organize and articulate thoughts, ideas and concepts and communicate them in a concise and

complete form, which will allow others to comprehend the reasoning and rationale for decisions,
recommendations and proposals.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply collaborative practices, negotiation techniques and communicating with
diplomacy.
  • Ability to implement strategies to promote and encourage diversity, individual dignity, and mutual respect.
  • Ability to research, analyze and assess information to develop and prepare reports, proposals,
recommendations and items for decision.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan Driver’s License and be willing to travel as required.
  • This position requires membership in the Canadian Association of Career Educators and Employers.
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes and supplies for rural sites. The boxes weigh approximately 25 lbs.
  • Must be bondable.
  • A satisfactory criminal records check with a vulnerable sector check is a condition of employment for this

position with North West College.
