Who we are:

Northern RNA Inc. is a new Canadian CMO specializing in the production of nucleic acid products that support life-enabling work. Our goal is to work alongside our customers to provide scalable manufacturing capacity and to help them accelerate innovation in bringing their products from benchtop to bedside or field.

Position:

We are seeking a bioprocessing operator to join our team. The bioprocessing operator will be a key part of our operational team at our Bioprocessing and Chemical Manufacturing Facility carrying out work including setting up, operating, monitoring, and cleaning bioprocess equipment. Processes include upstream operations (microbial cell fermentation) and downstream operations (chromatographic purification, tangential flow filtration) and equipment include bioreactors, mixing tanks, dryers, liquid chromatography equipment, spectrophotometers, and filtration equipment. Operators also record information and observations related to production processes, troubleshoot equipment problems, and participate in process improvement initiatives as well as the development of work plans. The successful candidate will work under safe, highly regulated, and documented conditions, supporting manufacturing activities according to GMPs and regulatory guidelines. Activities in this role:

Plan, set up, monitor, and complete processing steps (including chemical reactions, microbial fermentation, filtration) safely and accurately with timely recording of data during production to ensure life-saving products can be delivered on time
Carry out routine in-process testing of products using analytical techniques including general laboratory techniques such as spectrophotometry
Provide general support activities including organizing workstations, operating cleaning and sterilization equipment and coordinating waste disposal
Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of all production equipment and production areas, such as production rooms
Adhere to all departmental and company policies, cGMP procedures, and government regulations relating to health and safety
Ensures incidents, accidents, or damaged equipment are reported to supervisors/department managers promptly
Prepare and document reagents, media, buffers, stocks, and equipment
Perform equipment calibration, troubleshooting and preventative maintenance as required
Participate in drafting of documentation and reports in accordance with GDP guidelines
Support process/technology development, improvement, and/or transfer activities as needed
Work collaboratively with other team members and departments to achieve company goals and intended outcomes
Perform additional tasks as assigned
Who you are:

Degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent experience required. Degree in the biological sciences is an asset
At least 2 years of work experience in a controlled manufacturing, bioprocessing, or industrial environment is required
Basic computer skills are essential
Experience with routine analytical techniques is an asset (e.g., UV spectrophotometry, pH, conductivity, plate assays)
Knowledge and experience working under GMP, and regulatory standards is a plus
Meticulous at keeping records and highly organized
Demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task and meet assigned deadlines Willingness to comply with safety and quality regulations, including wearing protective equipment
Must meet physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting heavy objects, climbing, crouching and operating tools and equipment
Must be flexible and able to work in shifts (day-afternoon-night)
Excellent written and oral communication skills
