Douglas Lighting Controls engineers, manufactures, and distributes a full line of lighting control products from basic components to pre-assembled systems. Our products and systems are installed in thousands of buildings, hospitals, schools, and sporting stadiums across North America and we have come to be known for our reliable products and years of tremendous service.

Douglas is seeking a passionate individual to join its Application Design Team. The Lighting Controls Industry is a fast-paced environment facing an exciting time with the introduction of LED lighting components in the commercial space.

Position requires thorough knowledge of electrical system design, as well as CAD and graphics skills; responsible for creating electrical design packages that comply with local electrical codes implementing Douglas Lighting Controls products (including Systems, Sensors, and Energy Management products) on diverse commercial applications ranging from offices to stadiums.

The role will require the successful candidate to work with Sales, Rep Agents, and Electrical Contractors on complex commercial projects to devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and Douglas standards.

The customer service aspect of the role includes telephone tech support, and on-site troubleshooting and commissioning.

Functions:

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:

• Analyze electrical plan blueprints, schematics and specifications for system design
• Interpret addendums, emails, and other data to plan and design work
• Assemble bid, approval, and construction issue design packages
• Use engineering and design computer software to design work packages
• Assume the lead role on assigned projects
• Ensure coordination and effective communication on projects
• Direct and/or participate in job site visits to collect or deliver design and engineering data
• May serve as project lead, requires extensive and independent contact with Clients, vendor’s representatives and project field personnel; attend and participate in Client and Douglas meetings
• Technical customer support via telephone, email, webinars, and on-site
• Troubleshoot and isolate faults
• Install, replace and repair electronic controls
• Test and measure voltage, loads, ground faults integrity of circuits

Technical Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:

• Electrical Plan reading and interpretation
• Proficient computer use
• Safety training
• Experience in working with multiple discipline projects with Commercial Electrical Contractors
• Knowledgeable in NEC Standards, California Title 24, and IEEE/IES/API Standards
• Understand electrical systems in commercial structures
• Hands-on skills with wiring and troubleshooting electronics
• AutoCAD 2015 or newer
• Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite (Automation of Microsoft Office suite including Excel macro programming is an asset)

Education/Experience:

• Bachelor of Science degree in an Engineering or scientific discipline
• Diploma in engineering technology or technical discipline
• 2-5 years of experience with advance knowledge in electrical systems and or engineering, obtainable usually through a combination of experience and continuing education
• Registration with EGBC as an EIT or P.Eng is an asset (Job title is Application Engineer for those who are qualified)
