Big White is currently accepting applications for a position in Outdoor Operations as an Electrician. The successful applicant will be responsible for maintenance and repair of electrical systems on all of our ski lifts and on-hill infrastructure. The applicant will join the lift maintenance crew and assume many of the same responsibilities such as mechanical checks on lifts each day, starting and ensuring continued operation of lifts, guest assistance, helping other departments and ensuring compliance with BC Electrical and CSA Z98 codes, Worksafe BC regulations and company policies.

This is potentially can become a permanent, full-time, year-round position. After a probation period, the candidate is eligible for company benefits including health and dental benefits, pension plan and other company benefits and discounts.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

• Maintenance and repair of lift related components including AC motors and drive controllers, DC motors and drive controllers, control PLC’s including PILZ, Allen Bradley and Siemens systems.
• Maintenance of on-hill infrastructure including lighting for night skiing and streetlights
• Operating snowmobiles and company vehicles safely
• Working at heights on lift towers and aerial platforms using appropriate fall arrest/restraint equipment
• Troubleshooting problems quickly and efficiently in high pressure situations and frequently extreme weather conditions
• Working outside all year round in every kind of weather condition
• Working with Millwrights on mechanical and general labour projects
• Completing work orders and associated paperwork correctly and promptly
• Using company tools and equipment safely and following safe working procedures
• Working productively in a team environment or on your own
• Assisting in the on-going training and support of seasonal operations staff
• Maintenance of all tools, vehicles and equipment

Required Qualifications

• Canadian Journeyman Red Seal Electrical qualification
• Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status
• Expert knowledge of ski lift electrical systems including DC and AC drive motors and drive controllers and low voltage PLC controls
• Extensive experience in reading of schematics and troubleshooting
• Experience in working at heights and use of fall arrest/restraint equipment
• Some experience with operation of snowmobiles is required
• Some knowledge of desktop computers and applications
• Class 5 BC driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential
• Must be physically fit and able to work outdoors at high altitude for long periods
