About You / What We Are Looking For

The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking up to 3 individuals to join our Environment team in a temporary full time capacity for a 5 to 7 month term starting mid April 2024. If you are a self-starter with a passion for the environment and would like to apply your skills in a progressive municipal environment, this may be the role for you!

Our ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary education in a program related to resource management or environmental studies. This position will be responsible for effectively and efficiently patrolling Coquitlam’s neighbourhoods and enforcing adherence to the City’s Drinking Water Conservation Plan Bylaw, Solid Waste Management Bylaw and Wildlife & Vector Control Bylaw. You will prepare, organize and deliver information on water conservation and urban wildlife to the public, as well as promote and provide education for program initiatives at community events and seminars. Other duties may include assisting with initiatives within the Environmental Services Division as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidates must enjoy working outdoors in all conditions and be willing and available to work early morning, evening and weekend shifts. Overnight shifts may be required contingent on operational need. Excellent public education and interpersonal skills; experience in environmental activities or issues; strong written/verbal communication; experience in data recording/entry and mapping; demonstrated organizational ability and creativity; and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required in the role. A high degree of self-discipline and attention to detail is necessary to perform some routine duties.

Preferred Qualifications

Formal conflict resolution training, bylaw enforcement experience (including evidence collection), and experience conducting public education and outreach campaigns would be considered an asset. This position requires proficiency in MS Excel and Word as well as a valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.

What We Offer:

This CUPE position has an hourly rate range of $29.48 - $34.63. The rate of pay is based on a variety of factors including qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills.
