Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Clinic Manager for Kaye Edmonton Clinic Centre for Bleeding and Rare Blood Disorders (CFBD) the Unit Clerk is responsible for managing the flow of information and providing clerical support to the CFBD staff and physicians. As front-line contact, the incumbent is required to provide a high standard of interpersonal communication between health professionals, departments , patients and families. The incumbent must have the ability to coordinate the program resources in order to meet the needs of the patients referred for assessment and treatment. The incumbent shall demonstrate confidentiality, flexibility, initiative and ability to perform in a fast paced environment. Evidence of excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written required. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team as well as independently and be able to prioritize workload. You will require advanced administrative or specialized skills and knowledge to support complex procedures, Ability to work and adapt within short timelines, deal with numerous interruptions and work independently as part of a larger multidisciplinary team, in a busy multi-tasking environment. Strong organizational, planning and time management skills are required. Strong independent problem solving skills and attention to detail required. The incumbent coordinates referrals to the Centre for Bleeding and Rare Blood Disorders (CFBD) clinic for patient assessment and treatment. Books patient appointments and tests. Answers various phone calls that pertain to the clinic. Works with physicians and administrative assistants to obtain scheduled and patient information. The incumbent is also responsible for minute taking, filing, template building and scanning documents into Connect Care.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years’ experience in a ambulatory unit clerk position. Completion of a relevant certificate, degree, or training program (such as a Unit Clerk program or Medical Office Assistant program). Proficiency with general computer programs (such as Word, Outlook, and Excel). Extensive experience in the use of computer programs, graphic packages, database management and other associated software functions. Connect Care scheduling, workqueue and referral experience. Experience with the Connect Care informatics system (ideally with roles including schegistrar, medical office assistant, referrals coordinator, and template builder). Strong multi-tasking ability. Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced, time-sensitive organization. The ability to sit and complete computer work for extended periods of time. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. The ability to complete tasks independently-,with minimal supervision and prioritize workload. Experience handling confidential and sensitive information is required. Strong independent problem solving skills and attention to detail required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience processing referrals. Conflict Resolution training and experience an asset.
