Your Opportunity:

The Unit Clerk position is essential to the smooth and efficient operation of the Obstetrical inpatient unit. As the initial contact person, the Unit Clerk is instrumental in facilitating communication between nursing and other health disciplines, departments, and patients and families. The Unit Clerk provides ongoing assistance to nursing, medical and other staff concerning the administrative and procedural working of the inpatients unit. In addition, the unit clerk will be responsible for providing orientation and training to new Unit Clerks.

Description:

As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Unit Clerk Course or equivalent training program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Proficient skills in both written and spoken English required. Demonstrated understanding of and experience in Patient and Family Centered Care. Demonstrated strong organizational, communication, and conflict resolution skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Recent experience in a Unit Clerk position on Labour and Delivery preferred. Recent experience in a Unit Clerk position on Postpartum preferred. Experience with electronic patient registration, Electronic entry of delivery records (Perilink), and scheduling systems (Community Wide Scheduling) preferred. Demonstrated intermediate skill level in data base management, spreadsheet, and work processing preferred.
