Job Description

We’ve been conducting an experiment since Shopify was born to test a few hypotheses: that commerce can be a force for good. That entrepreneurs drive communities forward. That small businesses are the backbones of economies. Over the years, we’ve found all of these things to be true.

Now we want to test a few more things. And we need a Transportation Continuous Improvement Analyst to help us do that. The team that you will be part of is working at the forefront of an incredibly exciting and complex Shopify product. This team is responsible for identifying, implementing and leading projects to help drive continuous improvements, scale our network and overall build the future of SFN. We focus on Merchant delight while making our fulfillment and transportation operations more reliable and efficient, faster and scalable - all at a lower cost. When you think that our total merchant base now counts over 1 million merchants in over 175 countries, you get an idea of just how complex this problem set is. NOW is the chance to get in on the ground floor. We need someone who is a terrific problem solver, passionate about transportation and operations and can work cross-functionally to achieve big goals. Please come work with us if you love big open-ended problems, finding opportunities where no one else can, and is excited by contributing and leading projects in ambiguous spaces.

The role will work with the Transportation Operations Excellence team, with strong partnerships cross-functionally. This will include, but not limited to:

  • Own end-to-end cycle of projects from proactive identification of opportunities, prioritization, pilot, implementation and retrospectives.

  • Apply project management best practices and standards within the project team and throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Support and lead transportation operations projects related to improving our speed, reliability and unit economics.

  • Conduct data deep dives to better understand opportunities and gaps. (Be ready to dive into data and gain insights that will help move us forward).

  • Drive continuous improvements across our operations including building the foundations and processes for a scaling of our transportation operation.

  • Create business cases that drive decisions and be comfortable with analysis that support cost/benefit decisions.

  • Project management of the launch of new initiatives and programs ranging in complexity and size (e.g., peak, launch of carrier, building dashboards etc).

  • Identify tools and tech requirements to help drive CI and work with Data Science and Product Teams.

  • Create great partnerships cross-functionally and build collaborative relationships needed to drive improvement in this area.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in transportation (ideal: last mile, small parcels, but not required) and general understanding of supply chain and warehouse operations within the e-commerce industry.

  • Experience leading and supporting projects that are both aimed at continuous improvement as well as defined projects.

  • Ability to dive into highly ambiguous problems and find opportunities to improve and challenge the status quo. Solves problems creatively and ready to build from the ground-up.

  • Experience with Continuous Improvement methodologies: Lean and Six Sigma tools .

  • Experience with operational transportation tools such as TMS and YMS.

  • Great comfort with operational KPIs to drive results and ability to deep dive into data to gain insights.

  • Ability to conduct analysis, develop business cases/cost and benefit analysis and effectively communicate with stakeholders to gain alignment.

  • Effectively work cross-functionally to solve problems across teams and drive decisions and initiatives forward.

Preferred (but not required) experience working in both operational settings (e.g., Ops Manager) and project based role.
