The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Traffic Design Lead or Traffic Management Lead, this position will have a primary focus in Area Two but may be involved in any area on a project basis or as needed.
  • Area One’s focus is signs and pavement marking, on-street parking, as-built drawings, and Special Event applications.
  • Area Two’s focus is coordinating and leading in the development and administration of traffic safety-related works such as Collision Database management, Collisions Analysis, Network Screening, and other safety-related programs.
  • Area Three’s focus is traffic signal operations including signal warrant analysis, preparation of intersection signal layout design and cost estimates, signal construction project coordination, signal timing plan design, SCOOT central computer operation, and detailed report preparation.
As our preferred candidate, you will have:
  • Diploma in Civil or Transportation Engineering Technology. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Two years municipal traffic experience.
  • CET membership or eligible for membership in Alberta Society of Engineering Technologists.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Access software. Must be familiar with AutoCAD and Synchro/SimTraffic software packages.
  • Must have ability to make computations and measurements, interpret engineering drawings, survey notes, and other engineering data accurately.
  • Must be able to change direction at short notices and sustain concentrated effort to meet stringent construction deadlines and unpredictable schedules in a fast-working environment
  • Must be able to inspect work in the field and make field decisions within area of responsibility.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with various City Departments, contractors, consultants, and the public, both verbally and in writing, to obtain understanding in a potential conflict situation.
  • Must be familiar with the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Canada and the Provincial Traffic Safety Act.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.

$42.59 to $47.37 per hour.

Hours of Work:

75 hours biweekly, Monday to Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
