Integrated Energy Manager – Net Zero Pathways

Location - Halifax or Sydney, Nova Scotia

The Verschuren Centre is seeking an impassioned engineer looking to make an impact on the most important challenge of our time – achieving net zero emissions by 2050. The Integrated

Energy Manager will lead the ongoing technical design, build, commissioning, and operation of a new Emissions Reduction Innovation Centre. This facility will enable scale up of clean energy and clean materials technologies.

The Verschuren Centre (VC) is a clean-tech development and deployment facility. We provide services to support the scaling and deployment of clean technology companies, in the areas of biomanufacturing, carbon transformation, and clean energy, to the commercial and industrial sectors.

The VC ecosystem is the bridge to a sustainable green economy. Our highly qualified team work collaboratively with our clients in our modern shared-use facility to scale their innovations for commercialization. In our fast paced, customer driven environment, we are advancing technologies to displace petroleum-based products and accelerate net zero goals of GHG reduction targets.

Reporting to the Manager, Net Zero Pathways the candidate will work with and have the support of the multi-disciplinary energy and materials team members and must possess a broad understanding of technical and integration aspects of clean technologies in thermal and smart materials into the Emissions Reduction Innovation Centre. The candidate will work closely with client domain experts in the design, implementation and execution of testing and deployment projects.

Qualifications and Eligibility:

• Professional Engineer Accreditation
• Require minimum 5 years’ experience working with industrial or commercial thermal processes and/or systems.
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Process Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Experience with applying industrial/commercial thermal processes.
• Experience and knowledge of industrial/commercial instrumentation and control systems.
• Experience and knowledge of design of energy systems, data acquisition and analysis.
• General knowledge of renewable energy, energy storage, particularly thermal aspects of energy transformation, storage technologies and energy efficiency technologies.
• Excellent communication skills - effectively interacting with both technical and non- technical personnel.
• Technical documentation skills.
• Project co-ordination, reporting and supervisory skills an asset.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership in the design, commissioning, and operation of the Emissions

Reduction Innovation Centre.

• Advise and conduct applied testing, scaling deployment of thermal decarbonization processes and technologies.
• Lead sustainable energy and clean technology projects in mechanical and materials engineering.
• Work with clients (SME companies), suppliers, stakeholders, funding sources, subcontractors, and engineers to implement scaled up test systems.
• Assess energy balance and GHG calculation reductions and make recommendations to achieve more energy efficient operations through analysis of energy usage data.
• Advise corporate clients and organizational partners on issues & solutions for decarbonization technologies and path to net zero.
• Review client system architectures, detailed design documents, test plans and specifications to evaluate technical feasibility, economic, integration needs and engineering feasibility.
• Evaluate novel technologies for application in project and partner applications.

Salary: $70,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
