The Role

Reporting to the Director of Sales, the Technical Sales Engineer will work in close collaboration with other members of the Business Development Team to drive the entire sales process forward, thus allowing Vista Solutions to build on its’ corporate vision of achieving world class excellence and a leadership position in the field of machine vision integration.

This position works across a broad range of industries including Food and Beverage, Automotive, Medical Device, Packaging, Metal Casting, and Consumer Products/Electronics across North America.

What You’ll Do

Under the supervision of the Director of Sales, the duties and responsibilities of the Technical Sales Engineer include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assumes, manages, and develops key strategic accounts, which will be outlined and designated shortly after time of hire;
  • Develops new relationships and leverages any existing relationships for the purpose of expanding Vista business activities;
  • Consults with VP of Engineering and SMVEs to estimate technical requirements (i.e., hours, equipment, sub-contract services, technical notes and assumptions, etc.);
  • Participates in trade shows, recruiting events, and other similar events to further promote Vista;
  • Prepares cost sheets and technical proposals, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information prior to submission to the client;
  • Works with vendors to gather pricing and lead time on components and sub-contract services;
  • Regularly communicates with strategic vendors to foster relationships and to identify new mutual business opportunities;
  • Utilizes NetSuite ERP and CRM as the primary tool for managing and tracking the selling process;
  • Prepares and presents company and proposal presentations to clients;
  • Drives and coordinates the project hand-off meeting with Vista PM team, at time of PO receipt from client;
  • Participates in regular Resource Planning Calendar meetings and prepare/provide input as needed;
  • As required, supports PM in maintaining regular and ongoing communication with clients and other relevant stakeholders on topics related to project timing, open issues, engineering changes, etc;
  • Assists with special assignments / high-level initiatives related to Vista’s overall sales strategy that will contribute to the overall success of the Vista Business Development Team; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • Mechatronic, Electrical, Computer, or other related technical degree with a keen interest and/or experience in machine vision, automation, robotics, or programming;
  • Two (2) to three (3) years’ relevant experience in solution-based selling within the automation and/or controls industries;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Valid G Class driver’s license;
  • Possess a reliable vehicle;
  • A valid passport and the ability to meet the requirements of an E-Visa or TN Visa;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently yet collaboratively in a team environment; and
  • Police clearance upon hire

Nice to Have

  • Experience and familiarity with machine vision is considered an asset; and
  • Knowledge of PLC, electronics, robot programming and automation is considered an asset.

Working Conditions

  • This role is required to work independently in a dynamic, fast paced environment;
  • This role has a travel requirement outside Windsor, ON, sometimes with little advance notice. This role travels between Canada and the USA. A TN Visa will be required (provided by Vista Solutions Inc.) for work in the USA; and
  • Required to meet a number of deadlines which may cause stress.
