The Canadian Light Source Inc. (CLSI) is the national synchrotron research facility on the University of Saskatchewan campus in Saskatoon. This facility produces high-intensity synchrotron light, millions of times brighter than sunlight, to explore the nature and structure of molecules and serves national and international users from academia, industry, and government institutions. The CLS facilitates scientific research aimed at finding solutions for global challenges in agriculture, health, advanced materials, and the environment.

CLSI is now accepting applications for a part-time Systems Support Technician in the Systems Technology department. Reporting to the Infrastructure Technology Lead, the successful candidate is responsible for a full range of computer support services to CLS Facility users, clients, visitors and staff including support of CLS Facility Windows and Linux operating systems, hardware, workstations, notebooks and a multitude of applications. Part time hours for this position will be 24 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent must ensure accurate inventory control and documentation and be experienced in the support, installation and deployment of a multitude of computer applications.
  • Installation of workstations, printers, plotters, applications and other CLS Facility specific hardware and software.
  • Hands on troubleshooting and correction of software and hardware issues.
  • Deploy and support systems using Windows and Linux based operating systems.
  • Writes and implements procedures and guidelines related to duties.
  • Liaises with third party manufacturers and/or suppliers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A Minimum of a Grade 12 diploma
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Previous experience with Linux based systems would be considered an asset.

Remuneration:This position falls within the scope of the Unifor Local 609 Collective Agreement. Remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A comprehensive benefits package, including supplemental health & dental, health spending account, life insurance, pension plan, and three weeks’ vacation (pro-rated to FTE) is part of a competitive compensation package.
