This leadership role provides guidance and ensures regulatory compliance to maintain the reliable treatment of potable water.

Our ideal candidate

  • Has thorough knowledge in leadership, planning, scheduling, coordinating and quality assurance in water treatment plant operations & maintenance.
  • Has experience in business planning, operating & capital budgeting, & monitoring & reporting.
  • Has working knowledge of industry & City regulations, acts, & approvals.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills and have demonstrated your ability to develop effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a systematic approach and independent judgement to make sound decisions and recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree in engineering, chemical, biological, or environmental science from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Possess Alberta Level 4 Water Treatment Certification.
  • Eight (8) years operating experience in a large municipal treatment facility including four (4) years experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Engineering graduates must be registered and licensed by APEGA.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training and experience may be considered. This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.

The Water treatment facility has a firm capacity to treat 160 MLD of Potable water to Medicine Hat and surrounding area. We are currently constructing a Solids Handling Facility that will treat our waste streams that return to the South Saskatchewan River THAT’S INNOVATION, MEDICINE HAT STYLE!
