Now Hiring Superintendent - Transit Operations

This is a management position responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day operations and maintenance for Transit Services, including supervising Leadhands, Transit Operators and Service Workers. Additionally, the position works collaboratively with other Community Development services in building relationships with customers, stakeholders and staff in meeting expectations in the provision of transit services.

Our ideal candidate

  • Organizes, directs, coordinates and monitors all day-to-day operations for the conventional and special transit systems and transit maintenance.
  • Provides leadership and performance management to Lead Hands and the working teams to meet varying situations including, as necessary; directing, coaching, supporting and delegating
  • Responsible for ensuring a strong customer service focus, skills development and training of Lead Hands and working teams.
  • Communicates effectively and ensures appropriate systems of communication are in place ensuring that precise and accurate information is shared in a timely fashion.
  • Ensures that standard operating policies and procedures for Transit Services are established, maintained and well communicated to staff.
  • Responsible for all Health and Safety investigations, and the development and fulfillment of departmental health and safety procedures and training programs.
  • Ensures that any major service disruptions, emergency situations involving transit vehicles and service cancellations are managed appropriately per established corporate expectations.
  • Understands and ensures the effective use of the technology software supporting transit operations; prepares and maintains statistical and financial analysis reports and ensure other operations-related documents and records are maintained in compliance with regulatory and due diligence requirements.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a two (2) year diploma in management or transportation related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience in the transit industry including three (3) years in a progressively responsible supervisory role.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Class 2 Alberta Driver’s license (with air brake endorsement) may be required.
  • Possess a current Standard First Aid Certificate and CPR certificate.
  • An equivalent combination of management approved training and experience may be considered.
  • This position has been identified as Safety Sensitive and requires the completion of a satisfactory pre-employment drug screen.
