Job Title: Summer Student - Childcare Worker, Daycare
Location: Calgary, AB

We are currently seeking a creative, dedicated, and high energy Summer Student to join our team as a Childcare Worker. This is a temporary, full-time position working out of the HHN Shelter and Housing Centre in Calgary.

The Childcare Worker provides frontline care and early childhood education and supports to children ages 0-8 years with the Child Development Centre (CDC) at Home Heart Network’s Brenda Strafford Centre (the Centre). Working as part of a collaborative team, the Childcare Worker offers childminding and engages children in a daily schedule of activities and developmental program offerings. Children attending the CDC reside with their families at the Centre and have suffered the impacts of family violence and often require high ratio care and attention. Staff will also support the completion of developmental assessments and work with families to strategize and develop care plans that support addressing developmental deficits and challenges faced by young children. Duties include the direct supervision and care of children ages 0-8 years; planning and preparation of CDC activities and learning opportunities; simple meal preparation and food service cleaning; daily organizing of the CDC; ordering and taking inventory of supplies; providing support and education for participant families; and data entry and client file management. The Childcare Worker reports directly to the Manager, Child Development and works collaboratively with Client Services Staff and participant families.

  • Client Service - Client Service refers to the ability to communicate efficiently and professionally with clients. At work, client service skills are required to interact with clients on behalf of the employer
  • Teamwork - Teamwork refers to the skills needed to interact with other people. At work, people work with others in pairs and in small and large groups to coordinate tasks, share resources, plan, make decisions, negotiate, solve conflicts and complete other activities that involve teamwork
  • Communication - Communication refers to the skills needed to exchange thoughts and information with other people. This exchange can happen orally by speaking, listening and using non-verbal cues, such as body language or in writing. At work, people use communication skills to talk to customers, discuss products with suppliers, explain work procedures to co-workers, participate in virtual sales meetings with clients, and other activities that involve verbal or written exchanges
  • Leadership - Leadership refers to a number of skills, including communication, relationship building, and the ability to delegate and traits such as honesty. At work, leadership skills are required when working in a team, demonstrating initiative, and taking responsibility for the completion of tasks that require multiple employees
