As part of the public education system in Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education (SRCE) was established on April 1, 2018, to deliver the public school program focusing on supporting student learning, achievement, well-being and overall success. The Strait Regional Centre for Education, with the support of approximately 1,050 employees, works diligently to achieve its mission “to empower our children and youth, within safe, equitable and inclusive environments to embrace a changing world as responsible, contributing and successful lifelong learners.” In 2021-2022, the SRCE operates 20 schools with approximately 5,787 students; and approximately 345 children are attending pre-primary programs at 14 school locations. Located in the northeastern part of Nova Scotia, the Strait Regional Centre for Education’s jurisdiction encompasses the counties of Antigonish, Guysborough, Inverness and Richmond, an area of approximately 11,000 square kilometres with a population of 53,125 (Census 2016).

School Psychologist: This position will be based at EAECA and cover additional schools in Antigonish and Guysborough Counties


The SRCE Psychologists work within a collaborative framework with focus on implementation in the classroom/for programming.
Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • coaching, co-teaching, consultation;
  • completion of psychological-educational assessments;
  • provision of counselling services;
  • provision of behavioral assessment and intervention services;
  • membership on the Regional Support Team (Crisis Response);
  • collaboration with school teams in the design, implementation and monitoring of educational programs and services;
  • provision of professional development to staff; and Regional Education Centre;
  • other duties as assigned by the Co-ordinator of Student Services.

This Regional School Psychology position will provide services to schools in the Strait Regional Centre for Education as determined by the Coordinator of Student Services, and needs identified in collaboration with regional and school-based personnel.


Essential Qualifications:


  • Masters’ Degree in School Psychology or equivalent;
  • Eligible for Nova Scotia Teaching Certification;
  • Eligible for registration with the Nova Scotia Board of Examiners in Psychology;
  • Valid NS Drivers’ License and access to a vehicle;
  • Excellent communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • training and/or work experience in school settings;
  • knowledge and/or experience in implementing behaviour support programs (including classroom and student management skills);
  • knowledge and/or experience in implementing of coaching, co-teaching, consultation models;
  • knowledge of Response to Intervention model of support.
