Summary:

Provides strategic partnership to commercial operations teams at both Whitby and Mississauga Sites by designing and implementing initiatives to optimize business processes in order to deliver valuable market/ business intelligence on contract and product profitability. The holder of this position is required to assess and mitigate company risks in new and existing deals, and to inform and educate stakeholders on such risks. Ideally, this role is responsible for developing pricing for new and existing clients, recommending, and finalizing commercial terms and agreements, and implementing guidelines and processes.

Essential Functions:

Identify key financial and sales trends to drive growth:

  • Partner with business/project management teams to drive growth in market share by finding opportunities.
  • Leverage historical trend analysis to provide direction for commercial activities.
  • Develop & implement forecast modeling with insightful business intelligence to help find opportunities and gaps within the organization.
  • Liaise with a cross-functional team to enhance and drive adoption of 18-month rolling forecast.
  • Assess industry Key Performance Indicators and identify perspective values to inform pricing.
  • Support critical recurring and ad-hoc reporting and analysis to drive the business.
  • Analyze internal / external information using data manipulation, correlation and statistical analysis.
  • Report on actual sales as compared to sales targets for volume and market share.
  • Support regular internal & external business review cadence vs. key performance indicators and drivers.

Operational Support:

  • Participate in and coordinate pricing and modeling around new or revised deals.
  • Identify and communicate projected impacts on financial results, capital /operational planning, and bridge new deals into the forecast.
  • Drive cross functional activities enhancing revenue and margin generation by partnering with operations, legal and business management teams to deliver innovative solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Assist finance teams with reconciliation of projected versus actual financial outcomes, identifying variances and documenting findings.
  • Process Development and Improvement
  • Assist in designing initiatives that change upstream and downstream business processes to deliver better data to the finance department and visibility to leaders on contract profitability, forecast accuracy and achievability.
  • Provision of training for teams involved in the revenue generation activities on financial processes, margin expectations and compliance with accounting guidelines.
  • This is a site-based role and will require travel between both the Whitby and Mississauga site locations based on business needs.
  • Select, develop, and evaluate colleagues to ensure the efficient operation of the function. Work with and advise colleagues on administrative policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe working environment, report potential hazards and ensure all direct reports follow Environmental Health and Safety procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance

MBA or CPA preferred

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in commercial finance.

Manufacturing & pharmaceutical experience desired.


Equivalency:

Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to prioritize multiple projects, work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines. Knowledge of Systems: SAP and Hyperion an asset. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer focus and drive for results with strong problem-solving abilities. Capable of setting clear priorities, organizing work, and making quality decisions. Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Proficiency with the English Language.

Carry out all duties within strict compliance to Patheon quality SOPs and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Maintain workspace in a clean and orderly fashion. Actively engage in and adhere to departmental systems in order to maintain a smooth and efficient workflow (visual management, scheduling systems, etc.). Be client and patient conscious at all times. Understand Key Performance Indicators and strive to improve the performance of the team by identifying areas for system improvements and engage in problem solving. Models positive thinking and is open to change, motivating the team to adapt to shifts in priorities and new ways of working. Proactively identify areas for improvement in the execution of procedures. Communicate risks to timelines in a proactive manner. Consistently strives to improve skills and knowledge in related field.

Physical Requirements:

Light physical effort and fatigue. Walks, sits, or stands for limited periods. May require occasional equipment operation including keyboard equipment. Lifts light items for limited duration. Typically located in a comfortable indoor area. There may be regular exposure to mild physical discomfort from factors such as dust, fumes or odours, temperature extremes, loud noise, strong drafts, or bright lights. Use of Personal Protective equipment may be required and may include any of the following: safety glasses, safety shoes, lab coat, gloves, hair net, beard cover, safety apron, respirator on occasionally.
