Job Summary:

As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will play a critical role in supporting our financial planning, analysis, and reporting functions for Direct Energy’s regulated and competitive businesses. Your expertise and strategic insights will directly contribute to driving financial performance and decision-making within the organization.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead the financial planning and forecasting processes, including budget preparation, variance analysis, and trend identification to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end reporting, including reconciliations and financial statement analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain financial models, providing insightful analysis and recommendations to optimize business performance.

  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and present to senior management for informed decision-making.

  • Assess and mitigate financial risks, developing and implementing effective controls, policies, and procedures to ensure financial results integrity and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Support the development of pricing strategies, cost optimization initiatives, and profitability analysis to drive revenue growth and operational efficiency.

  • Provide cross-functional support for regulatory reporting, rate applications, and information requests as they arise.

  • Provide financial guidance and recommendations to stakeholders across the organization, assisting in strategic planning, business case development, and performance monitoring.

  • Support M&A activities, conducting financial due diligence, financial modeling, and valuation analysis for potential acquisitions or partnerships.

  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance efficiency.

  • Mentor other analysts, fostering their professional growth and building a high-performing team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or equivalent.

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CMA, CA, CGA), MBA or CFA designation a plus.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial analysis, planning, or similar roles within the retail energy industry or related sectors.

  • In-depth knowledge of financial principles (GAAP/IFRS and financial reporting), budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling techniques.

  • Advanced financial analysis tools skill (e.g., Excel), and experience with ERP systems (e.g., S4 Hanna / Oracle Essbase/EPBCS / Oracle HFM).

  • Experience developing insightful PowerBI dashboards strongly preferred.

  • Strong attention to detail, critical/analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret complex financial data, analyze trends, and provide strategic insights and recommendations.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial concepts to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.

  • Proven track record of driving process improvements and implementing financial best practices.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and continuous learning.

  • Ability to build positive relationships, influence and constructively challenge with various stakeholders.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance in retail energy industry.

  • Broad overall accounting experience: cash flow, internal controls, accounting policies and procedures, tax and regulatory requirements.
