Description

Our client located in Markham Toronto, is looking for a Senior Accountant for an 8 month’s contract opportunity. Working on a Hybrid model, and reporting both to Director Operational Accounting and Manager of Inventory Accounting, he/she will be responsible for monitoring and addressing issues with inventory levels; investigating unusual cycle counts, transfers and purchase transactions; reviewing and addressing large write off and load discrepancies; performing month end analysis and reporting on load factors, obsolescence, etc.; identifying and resolving cost issues to ensure inventory costing is correct; and supporting annual physical counts.

The position calls for excellent analytical skills where the individual is able to work effectively on solving inventory issues. The ability to meet departmental deadlines including month-end reports and reconciliations and other time-sensitive work is essential.

Essential Duties
  • Month end analysis, reporting and journal entries, including: Produce various month end reports including inventory levels, write offs, etc. Review and analyze margin and inventory shrink monthly. Reconcile GL inventory to sub ledger at period end. Reconcile product load factor accounts (duty, packaging, freight etc.). Intercompany profit analysis
  • Support store inventory monitoring and manage issue resolution including partnering with various internal departments
  • Partner with IT, Warehouse Inventory Control and Store Operations to review and address large write-offs and load discrepancies;
  • Monitor store and warehouse inventory levels, track store cycle counts, identify and follow up on unusual transactions and prepare inventory adjustments on an as needed basis
  • Generate annual store count shrink threshold tolerance levels and report and analyze the count results.
  • Review warehouse cycle count results and support warehouse annual physical counts including performing variance analysis as required
  • Facilitate inventory processing for store buyback/sales
  • Review and support daily postings for store and warehouse write offs and adjustments
  • Play key role in supporting Manager to complete quarter end review and year end audit work along with addressing other audit requests.
  • Using the obsolete query model, produce monthly and quarterly obsolete, clearance and expiry analysis and propose adjustments as needed.
  • Monitor Ecommerce inventory levels and transactions and action as needed
  • Use access queries to generate reports, analyze and report results to management
  • Play a key role in inventory analysis and supporting the merchant group, store operations and IT on an as needed basis
  • Work with private label suppliers to develop reporting on 3rd party wholesale purchases. Validate these wholesale purchases and work with the 3rd parties to generate charges and ensure the program is running smoothly.
Requirements

Qualifications:

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • CPA designation required.
Experience
  • 3-6 years analysis experience
  • Previous experience with month-end process (reconciliations, accruals and journal entries)
  • Previous experience in retail environments or exposure to inventory analysis desirable
Unique Skills
  • Strong IT skills required– Excel (v-lookup, pivot tables), Access
  • Accounting and financial analysis skills
  • Exposure to Microsoft Navision or similar mid to large size ERP system an asset
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Able to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
