Job Summary:

The incumbent provides a wide range of Communications activities to management and staff. Analyze, develop and implement communication and promotion strategies, information programs, advertising needs and maintain social media and websites.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation and advice to managers and staff on a wide range of communication initiatives, programs and processes ensuring that practises are consistent with corporate Communications Policy and Graphic Standards Manual and best practices.
  • Prepare and oversee the preparation and processing of communication materials, including websites, advertising, press releases, printed material and social media sites.
  • Contribute to the development of the City’s communication programs.
  • Manage and maintain municipal social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Google Plus).
  • Oversee and respond to web-based public inquiries.
  • Maintain database of photos, advertisements and marketing materials.
  • Assist in the preparation of brochures, reports, newsletters and other material.
  • Prepare event scenarios, speaking notes and messages upon request.
  • Act as Manager, Strategic Communications and Customer Service as assigned.
  • Other related duties.

Job Requirements:

Working Conditions:

Majority of the work is performed under normal office conditions with frequent site visits at various facilities. Frequent evening and weekend work.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Degree in Communications, Visual Arts, Graphic Design or equivalent.
  • Minimum five years progressive, related experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of communications, customer service, graphic design, photography and/or marketing and promotions.
  • Excellent organizational skills, prioritizing and ability to multitask with minimal supervision.
  • Proven written and oral communication skills to develop and communication materials.
  • Ability to foster and maintain effective relationships among managers and staff.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.



Examples of Equipment to Operate:

General office equipment including computer skills to operate software programs related to work processing, spreadsheet, electronic mail, etc.
