Your Opportunity:Located just a few short minutes north of Edmonton, the 167-bed Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) serves the community of St Albert and the surrounding area. Social Work at the Sturgeon Hospital provides a unique opportunity to work to your full scope of practice. This position requires both a high degree of independent critical thinking as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to provide advanced level clinical Social Work. Working from a concurrent capable perspective, you will be required to prioritize workload, formulate assessments and create intervention plans. These plans include psychosocial interventions, comprehensive risk assessment, and recommendations and provision of referrals for ongoing treatment and/or discharge planning. The Social worker will demonstrate exceptional communication skills with patients, family members and physicians. This position is based in the NICU, Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units. This requires a sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, the Alberta Guardianship and Trusteeship Act, and the options for patients to receive health care treatment when their decision-making ability is impaired. In addition, working knowledge of discharge planning, community resources, financial supports and processes related to transitions to alternate levels of care are an asset. Active or eligible for registration with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 years experience working in Acute Care as a social worker within the last 3 years required. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Able to act quickly and decisively using critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Able to utilize strong judgment by analyzing facts, considering the impact, and arriving at a sound conclusion, seeking counsel when appropriate. You can work independently and as a part of the team creating strong, effective interpersonal working relationships with peers and other caregivers. Effective time management and prioritization skills are required. Conflict resolution and strong communication skills are required. Knowledge and experience working diverse and marginalized populations using an equity, diversity, inclusion lens. Knowledge and application of trauma informed care. Understanding of the impact of Indigenous people’s history, culture and of reconciliation. Knowledge and ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office, Excel, and Outlook Required. Must be able to tolerate long periods of sitting, or standing as well as repetitive movements.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working in the NICU as a social worker preferred. Experience working in Labor and Delivery as a social worker Preferred. Previous experience with Connect Care Preferred. Completion of a Master’s degree in Social Work Preferred. 5 years’ experience working in an acute care setting Preferred. Previous experience working in Mental Health, or with Mental Health Assessment an asset.
