Durham College is seeking an individual with a successful background in social media marketing, ideally within the post-secondary sector. Reporting to the Dean of Professional and Part-time Learning (PPL), the Social Media Strategist will be responsible to optimize PPL’s digital presence through the application of a wide range of tools, technologies and communications. Working very closely with three PPL portfolio managers as well as experts in Durham College’s Communications and Marketing group, the incumbent will develop and implement short-term and long-term strategies that ensure PPL has a positive, robust and highly engaging social media presence. The incumbent will also monitor and respond to PPL social media traffic on a daily basis, as well as maintain the PPL website to ensure it is accurate and user-friendly. Along with this, the incumbent will conduct research to identify emerging customer needs and develop appropriate responses to the marketing activities of competing organizations. In short, the Social Media Strategist will play a pivotal role in PPL’s abilities to meet its registration and performance targets.

The Social Media Strategist Will Be Responsible To
  • Develop, test and implement social media marketing strategies for PPL that are aligned to the overarching marketing strategies developed by Communications and Marketing, in order to successfully promote new and existing programs, courses and other offerings that will increase PPL’s registrations and revenues.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for PPL in the social media environment on a day-to-day basis, routinely posting to and monitoring all PPL social media channels, promptly and appropriately responding to inquiries, complaints and suggestions, as well as escalating these where required.
  • Maintain the PPL website on an ongoing basis to ensure it is consistently up-to-date, user-friendly and engaging.
  • As appropriate, liaise with Search Engine People to monitor the effectiveness of PPL’s website.
  • Conduct social media marketing research and prepare analyses/recommendation reports for the executive dean and the PPL management team regarding marketplace trends, the effectiveness of PPL’s marketing activities, and the marketing activities of competing organizations.
  • Use Salesforce, and working with input from PPL managers, write and distribute marketing and operational communications to students as well as industry connections.
  • Provide leadership for the marketing aspects of any PPL special events such as Open House, webinars, etc.
  • Manage all marketing expenditures paid directly by PPL to optimize ROI and ensure adherence to budgets and Durham College policies.
Qualifications
  • The successful candidate will possess a 3-year Marketing or Communications advanced diploma or degree.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a social media role supporting a business.
  • Strong understanding of brand management principles and best practices.
  • Strong skills in working with a wide range of social media platforms for business, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • Technology skills sufficient to maintain the PPL website (e.g. intermediate-level HTML, video editing software, etc.)
  • Excellent relationship-building and collaboration skills as well as the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong critical thinking, strategic thinking and creativity skills
  • Solid understanding of CASL
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Superior customer service and online community management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills across a wide range of mediums, with the ability to simplify and communicate complex issues to a range of audiences
  • Proactive, flexible and self-motivated with sound judgment and strong decision-making skills
  • Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion
  • High levels of personal accountability, credibility and integrity
  • Basic project management skills
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce
