We need a Small Business Advisor to enhance the growth and profitability of our commercial deposit portfolios. What’s the role?

As the Small Business Advisor, you will be responsible for building deep a meaningful cross divisional relationships with a portfolio of small business members. Your goal will be to improve their financial health by tailoring business lending and cash management solutions to each unique situation and by referring the member to partners in other business lines to grow their relationship with Coastal Community.

Your duties will include:

  • Maintains a portfolio of small business accounts and will regularly pursue opportunities to grow this portfolio and to grow Coastal Community’s share of relationship by referring to other business lines.
  • Will be the first point of contact to welcome our new business members to Coastal once the initial membership opening is complete (Thirdstream or Branch opening).
  • Responsible for identifying cash management opportunities offering a full-service package for business members and refer opportunities identified to Business Service Team.
  • Responsible for timely completion of annual reviews and other portfolio management activities within the assigned portfolio to ensure risk is managed effectively on an ongoing relationship.
  • Responsible for operating within established policies, the Small Business Advisor develops and maintains a small business portfolio that ensures the success of the business unit.
  • Responsible for acting as a leader in using technology to drive strong business results and exceptional member experience.
  • Cultivates and sustains engagement with the community and non-profit organizations. Manages and maintains relationships with a network of key contacts and centres of influence to enhance the Credit Union’s image and reputation through effective public relations including presentations to business members.
  • Responsible for Identifying referral opportunities for existing and new members and refers to partners in other business lines.
  • Builds profitable relationships with members and assists with their business growth, improving their financial health. As needed, transitions more complex relationships to Business Relationship Managers’ portfolios.
  • Represents the Credit Union in the community and at business functions to raise the profile of the Credit Union as a financial services leader and to identify potential business opportunities (e.g. chamber of commerce, professional organizations, etc.).
  • Responsible for evaluating commercial loan applications and assessing the creditworthiness of small business members to determine appropriate loan structures and terms for recommendations to the proper credit approval authority.
  • Cross-Divisional Business Development
  • Works collaboratively with partners and leaders in other business lines to grow Coastal Community’s share of relationship with existing and new small business members to promote overall organizational profitability and success.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert for partners in other business lines to provide support on building relationships with small business members and clients.
  • Improves organizational knowledge by regularly presenting relevant topics and information to partner business lines within assigned region.
  • Assists in providing leadership, coaching/mentoring to branch leaders to foster business relationships, while developing business building skills and strategies in delivering the credit union’s vision and purpose.

What are we looking for?

  • A degree in Business Management or relevant post-secondary education or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Ideally, you are a flexible, collaborative team player with:

  • Previous experience in sales management including cross-divisional relationship building and referrals.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience working in financial services including lending experience.
  • Strong commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
  • Previous accounting experience or knowledge would be an asset.
  • Solid understanding and proven knowledge of all business lines and products of Coastal Community, including Retail, Commercial, Insurance Services and Wealth Management.
  • Knowledge of statutory guidelines and regulations governing business lending and cash management.
  • Knowledge of DNA, nCino, Salesforce, and other Coastal Community systems would be an asset.

The salary range for this role fits within this career band. Individual job salary range will vary within the career band, based on the skills and requirements of the job posting.

Full Time annual salary range based on 37.50 hour work week.

Specialist - Supervisor - $67,883.00 to $90,173.00
