Course Number and Title:FAH340H1F – 17th Century Art of the Netherlands

Course Description:Concentration on the major painters of Holland’s Golden Age, ca. 1580-ca. - 1700. Particular attention is paid to genre painting and the notion of “Dutch realism.” Consideration of art within its social and political contexts. Notions of gender, of the historical past, of embodiment, and of contact with the non-western world will be discussed.

Salary:

$9,182.42 for Sessional Lecturer I; $9,641.55 for Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term;

$9,826.96 for Sessional Lecturer II; $10,025.84 for Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term

$10,060.93 for Sessional Lecturer III; $10,262.15 for Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term

Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Art History, preferably in early modern art; if the PhD is in progress, the qualifying exam must already have been passed. Demonstrated skill in teaching, writing, and communication in the history of art are required.

Preferred Qualifications:Previous teaching experience and/or tutorial leadership in this or a similar course at the university level is preferred. Also preferred is experience with management and delivery of courses using University of Toronto or similar online systems (e.g., Quercus, Canvas-based technologies, Microsoft Teams, etc.).

Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University-credit course, including: developing and publishing the syllabus and marking scheme through Quercus; preparing and delivering lectures and/or leading classroom discussions during the 4 contact hours each week; preparing relevant assignments for student assessment, and (if applicable) setting and invigilating term tests and the final assessment; marking of student work and reporting final grades to the university; and maintaining office hours for academic counselling of students.
