Job Purpose:

The Senior Manager, Disclosure Processes and Controls is responsible for the research and development of policies and procedures governing reporting and control processes with respect to various financial disclosures for the Bank, as directed by the Director or Vice President. It involves analyzing and assessing the impact of evolving reporting requirements published by various accounting standard setting and regulatory bodies (for example, IFRS, OSFI, SEC, OSC, etc.), and providing advice and counsel on the financial accounting and disclosure implications of such requirements to various internal stakeholders across the Bank. An area of current focus would be recent developments with respect to enhanced ESG disclosure requirements.

The individual must become and remain up to date in the areas of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), OSFI, various securities exchange and other regulations relating to new and amended financial disclosure requirements; and be able to advise on the related accounting and disclosure implications to other teams. The role will entail maintaining close working relationships with multiple groups across the Bank, including but not limited to other Finance, Risk and Corporate Functions teams, in executing the Bank’s overall financial disclosure strategy and initiatives.


Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Will primarily be responsible for (1) processes and controls that support financial reporting and (2) collaboration and integration with other teams which jointly support the reporting needs of the Bank.
  • The role would involve monitoring standard-setting and regulatory developments from applicable regulatory bodies (IASB, ISSB, OSFI, SEC, CSA, etc.), and analyze and identify the impact of such developments, with a focus on the Bank’s financial reporting and related control processes.
  • The incumbent will be supporting the implementation of new/emerging standards (including ESG), and will provide advice and counsel on the development of processes, procedures, and appropriate control and governance to support the required financial disclosures that are integrated into the Bank’s quarterly and annual external financial reports/filings.
  • Responsible for ensuring that key areas of the Bank are aware of and appropriately prepare for/manage the impact of financial disclosure developments on the Bank’s reporting requirements and processes, as well as accounting policies and procedures.
  • Provide support and guidance to other Business units and Corporate support functions on the implementation of disclosure requirements, from a financial reporting and accounting perspective. This includes the identification of relevant source data, reporting, process and control requirements, as well as providing advice on various upstream and downstream accounting and financial/regulatory reporting impacts.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with other internal stakeholders of the Bank, in order to facilitate the achievement of the Bank’s overall strategic objective with respect to financial disclosures through effective collaboration and teamwork.
  • Participate and support senior management or other groups in ongoing industry advocacy initiatives and roundtables with respect to the evolving regulatory guidelines and frameworks for new and developing disclosures requirements.
  • As a member of the Global AP&P team, the incumbent may also be involved in other tasks and project within the team as necessary.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Should be experienced in process and controls, in order to be able to design and implement processes to meet internal controls over financial reporting (ICOFR) needs.
  • Expected to be highly organized and demonstrate superior time management skills in order to balance multiple project initiatives at any given time.
  • Be able to research and understand a vast body of complex material efficiently in order to produce clear and concise summary materials and recommendations to senior management and other internal stakeholders.
  • Be able to analyze, interpret and implement complex accounting and disclosure requirements.
  • Possess solid organizational awareness and strong analytical skills, to be able to assess the implication of evolving regulatory guidance, and design and/or enhance critical processes to support new reporting requirements.
  • Results-oriented yet capable of utilizing an adaptable and flexible approach in dealing with changes in the work/project environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent people management, interpersonal skills, and great team player, in order to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders in cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn to use the various reporting tools to extract and present information from the Bank’s accounting records
  • University degree in accounting, business or related discipline
  • Canadian CPA accounting designation
  • 5+ years of progressive work experience in an accounting, financial reporting or auditing function
  • Prior experience in process/control improvement or reporting initiative is an asset
