About The UOttawa Pension Fund And Investment Management

The University has three separate investment programs with total assets under management of approximately $4 billion; comprised of the Pension Fund, Long-Term Portfolio and Treasury assets. These programs include investments in a wide range of asset classes such as equities, fixed income, hedge funds, private debt, real estate and infrastructure.

Position Purpose

This position reports to the Director, Investments. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced investment professional to leverage your institutional investment management and strategic skills in a small professional team.

As an important contributor and collaborator to the success of the investment team, the incumbent will assist the Director, Investments and Chief Investment Officer in ensuring the oversight and management of a group of assigned asset classes across public and private markets, including due diligence and monitoring of prospective and existing investment strategies sourced from external investment managers. This includes the conduct of investment analysis, i.e. performance and risk analytics, due diligence and monitoring, as well as the preparation of comprehensive reporting of the University investment portfolios for purposes of sound investment management.

In This Role You Will
  • Perform screening and due diligence of investment opportunities sourced from external investment managers.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of existing investment mandates; assess performance results and risks, and compliance with guidelines, and portfolio objectives.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring tools for portfolio analysis (quantitative and qualitative).
  • Prepare materials for Investment Committee meetings, including performance and risk updates, commentaries, and manager recommendations.
  • Actively lead with the continuing implementation of University of Ottawa’s Responsible Investment strategy with a particular focus on ESG integration and monitoring, and climate change analysis.
  • Assist with accounting, finance or administrative functions when needed.
What You Will Bring
  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce or Business Administration or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of progressively more responsible relevant or equivalent investment experience.
  • A professional designation in a relevant investment industry discipline, i.e. CFA.
  • Sound knowledge of investment, performance and risk analysis, including ESG integration.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to assess investment strategies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and proficiency with investment analytic software packages such as Bloomberg.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills and ability to apply good judgement.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively in a small, informal team setting or independently with solid prioritization and organizational skills.
