The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) is a regulatory agency that reports to the Ministry of the Attorney General. The AGCO is responsible for regulating the alcohol, gaming, horseracing, and private cannabis retail sectors in Ontario, in accordance with the principles of honesty and integrity, and in the public interest.

The AGCO has an exciting opportunity within the Corporate Services Division for a Senior Financial Analyst. Reporting to the Senior Manager, External Financial Reporting, the Senior Financial Analyst will provide accurate and timely financial analysis and advice related to financial reporting, with a focus on, and accountability for, producing AGCO’s financial statements and related materials, as well as various other internal and external reports.

In this role, the successful candidate will:
  • Prepare regular and ad hoc financial reports for management.
  • Ensure that financial statements adhere to recognized accounting principles/practices, legislative framework and Ontario Public Service (OPS) Directives, Policies and Procedures.
  • Prepare analysis, commentary, and other materials to support the development of submissions such as Printed Estimates, Quarterly Reports and Treasury Board/Management Board of Cabinet submissions.
  • Prepare analysis or supporting documents for internal and external auditors on a timely basis.
  • Provide advice and interpretation of the financial aspects of related accounting standards, legislation, directives, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform detailed debrief of past audit findings or recommendations to improve current work processes.
  • Provide project leadership in support of managing the operational and financial matters related to the AGCO’s regulatory mandate.
  • Perform a variety of in-depth financial analyses to facilitate informed decision-making.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • A CPA accounting designation and a minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Expert-level knowledge of financial reporting, including financial statement preparation, planning, forecasting, and monitoring of actual figures.
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of competing tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Analytical skills to compile and analyze data from a variety of sources and prepare reports/summaries.
  • Knowledge of recognized research, statistical and analytical tools and methods, with the ability to formulate accurate conclusions and recommendations.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Experience with computerized financial information systems (e.g. Oracle Financials).
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve issues/anomalies.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • The successful candidate must be eligible to work in Canada and will be subject to a criminal background check.
