Chief Finance Office

Inmarsat’s Chief Finance Office (CFO) processes millions of transactions a month that enable us to interact efficiently with our suppliers, customers, trading partners and regulators. We make sure that the Company is properly funded and well controlled, that our taxes are paid and that shareholders and banks continue to support our plans. Our commercial teams help ensure that the business takes sound decisions through robust planning, careful pricing, sound contracts, skilled procurement and rigorous evaluation of every major business decision.

Primary role purpose:

As a key member of the Supply Chain Accounting team in Accounting Operations, you will work in a fast-paced environment to record and analyze transactions related to inventory; leased assets and related intercompany transactions, as well as work to make accounting processes more efficient. Inmarsat carries an inventory base of approximately $52 million and holds leased assets of approximately $144 million. Inmarsat is transforming its Record to Report processes through best practice SAP and business processes and controls. Continuous improvement and smart automation initiatives are integral in this journey and will be an important part of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of journal entries related to inventory; leased assets and related intercompany transactions, as part of the month end close process
  • Monthly account analysis and review of related source documents
  • Running order settlement processes in accounting system, as part of month end close process
  • Preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and other supporting working papers; investigation of outstanding balances
  • Completion of quarterly reconciliations of leased asset details in SAP to underlying systems
  • Working closely with business (including the Aviation and Maritime business units and Supply Chain) to investigate and resolve issues related to inventory and leased assets
  • Working with Maritime Sales and Supply Chain teams to provide net book value information for leased asset buyout and information requests
  • Provision of assistance in completion of year-end audit, statutory account audits, tax filings and other ad hoc requests
  • Participation in special projects regarding inventory and leased assets, including continuous improvement and automation initiatives.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

The candidate must be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge at the depth and scope required for the position.

  • An undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting/Finance, with progress towards a professional accounting designation
  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in similar accounting roles
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel (intermediate level of knowledge)
  • Excellent analytical skills; good problem solver
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal, required
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience with SAP would be an asset
