We are seeking a dynamic, highly motivated Relief Client Care Workerwho demonstrates our values of compassion, accountability, responsiveness and empowerment; to our clients, families and each other.

The Relief Client Care Worker covers off staffing needs within our residential programs. Within various multi-disciplinary teams, actively provide a safe environment, support both CCW, Recreational, therapeutic and medical staff to deliver services to individuals living with a dual diagnosis or an acute alcohol dependency.


Gain experience with one of Canada’s MAP (Managed Alcohol Program) known as the Special Care Unit or with our Dual Diagnosis Program (Wesley Supportive Housing). SCU offers support to adults experiencing homelessness and an acute dependency on alcohol while assisting with life skills development etc. This is a transitional program for males, females and non-binary.


WSH (Dual Diagnosis) is a housing program for 10 adults living with a Dual Diagnosis. This program in in partnership with the YWCA and St Joseph’s Hospital.


We are looking for a highly motivated staff who will use their skills to provide flexible intervention, assist clients to work on individual goals, assist with life skills development, support clients with programs and provide support and understanding for the struggles they may encounter.


This position is a unionized, reliefposition. The rate of pay is $17.44 per hour.


The successful candidate will be scheduled to work on an on-call basis. You will have the opportunity to cover varying shifts throughout the week. Hours vary based on need. Shifts could include days, evenings, overnights, and weekends. We are seeking a candidate with flexible availability, and overnight availability.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide support to individuals with complex special needs, behavioral and mental health challenges in a residential setting
  • Provide support to individuals living with acute alcohol dependency in a residential setting focused on harm reduction. This will include serving alcohol at designated times throughout a 24 hour period.
  • Actively engage participants in programs that focus on harm reduction that are designed to improve their physical wellness, build self esteem and support community inclusion.
  • Follow the behavior support plans, daily activity schedules, safety plans, individual case plans and other programs or activities available within the respective programs.
  • Offer crisis intervention as appropriate; using safety plans, care plans, emergency intervention and on call as appropriate.
  • Respond appropriately in emergency situations using conflict resolution techniques, motivational interviewing and sometimes just an open mind and willingness to listen.
  • Work effectively within a strengths based client –centered approach to service delivery.
  • Administer medications and appropriately document distribution, according to the established guidelines of the program, as applicable.
  • Document all individual client interactions, participation in groups or activities as well as a brief shift change summary articulating the client’s needs, behaviours and other pertinent information to be shared.

What you will bring:


  • Must be enrolled and working towards a diploma or degree (Post-secondary) in Social Services, Developmental Services or human services or equivalent.
  • Concurrent Disorders, Mental Health and Disability Management or equivalent certificate is an asset
  • Some experience, effectively working with marginalized populations experiencing homelessness, mental health and addictions and a demonstrated ability to form rapport with target populations within a residential setting is an asset
  • Experience providing client-centered services within a multi-disciplinary team of providers, which will include full time CCW, Clinical therapist, and nursing staff as well as external community supports is an asset
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours within one of 2 programs. Hours of operation in both residential programs are 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including statutory holidays.
  • Training in non-violent crisis intervention (NVCI), ASSIST, first aid/CPR certification, P.I.E.C.E.S., first aid mental health or relevant equivalents is an asset, but will also be offered throughout the year for those not certified.

As a condition of employment, the successful candidate is required to submit proof of full COVID-19 vaccination to Human Resources.
