Position Description

Temporary assignment - approximately 24 weeks

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Registered Practical Nurse, under the Standards of Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario and the Department of Nursing, functions as a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology nursing team to provide preventative, educational and/or supportive care. Basic knowledge, decision making and communication techniques are employed in assessing, planning and implementing nursing care.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
  • CPR certificate
  • Perinatal Nursing Certificate from a recognized college program
  • Breastfeeding Certificate from a recognized college program
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year recent nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred and/or maternity gynecolgy nursing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of perinatal physiology and care of the pregnant or postpartum patient.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of issues specific to women’s health and care of the gynecology patient, including the pre- and post-operative periods.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the Baby Friendly Initiative as it relates to nursing practice within the clinic and hospital settings.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, maintaining good interpersonal relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize, problem solve and manage workload in a fast paced, high volume clinic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team including physicians, nurses, clerical staff, allied health professionals and medical learners.
  • Experience with computers, data entry and patient information system.
  • Must have a good attendance and work record.

WAGE RATE:
Hourly: $33.11... $34.53... $35.97 (plus 14% in lieu)

HOURS OF WORK:
Monday to Friday, days.
