The RN CV - Congenital Heart will be responsible for the coordination and scheduling of patients for cardiovascular surgery. This position will act as a resource for CV surgery patients and their families ensuring patient and family-centered care and safety. Responsibilities include: coordinate, prioritize and manage the cardiac surgical schedule, assemble and review patient documentation, prioritize all elective and urgent/emergent booking requests, coordinate Pre-Admission Clinic visits, collaborate with PCICU staff and surgeons to confirm bed availability. As a member of the Western Canadian Children’s Network, and the primary referral center for cardio-surgical care in western Canada, this position will liaise with referral partners to facilitate surgical care for pediatric patients. Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team, including: Surgeons, Surgeon Offices, Bed Managers, OR Staff, Surgical Short Stay Unit, Pre Admission Clinic, PCICU and NICU. The successful candidate will coordinate and schedule the Pediatric Cardiac Clinic patients for non-sedated and sedated procedures and tests. This position is required to attend weekly CV Surgical Conference and maintain documentation within an electronic medical record to track surgical priorities and facilitate continuity of care. When required, the successful candidate will provide clinical support to the Nursing Team of the Pediatric Cardiac Clinic. The Pediatric Congenital Heart Program Cardiovascular (CV) Surgery Coordinator will report to the Unit Manager of the Pediatric Cardiac Clinic at the Stollery Children’s Hospital.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of five years of recent Pediatric Cardiology experience is required. Previous case coordination experience required. Demonstration of assessment, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational and patient care skills is required. Self-direction, adaptability and flexibility are required while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment. Requires the ability to work independently and effectively in a multidisciplinary setting and maintain a high degree of confidentiality. Requires the ability to assess patient care needs and concerns and provide nursing follow-up care within Scope of Practice. Detail-oriented and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines in a timely manner required. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required, including public speaking and teaching abilities. Proven reliability and dependability required. This position requires excellent working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook e-mail and Calendar. Physical requirements include lifting, pushing and pulling to transfer or transport patients and equipment. Extended periods of sitting, standing and walking is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Equivalent education and experience may be considered. Connect Care and Netcare training and experience a definite asset.
