Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Public Health Area Manager, the Public Health Nurses (PHNs) work to promote and protect the health and well-being of individuals, families, groups, communities, organizations and populations. Planning, development, implementation and evaluation/research of public health programs and initiatives, including advocacy, community engagement, health education and skill building. Maternal, Infant, Child and Adult Health Promotion. Immunization for all age groups and Influenza program delivery. Communicable disease prevention, follow up and surveillance. Health assessment, planning, health education, anticipatory guidance, preventative screening, referrals as appropriate. Assess and address social determinants of health in all populations served including vulnerable and marginalized populations. Maintain necessary documentation according to the policies and procedures of Alberta Health Services as well as the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) Standards of Practice. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Fort McMurray Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $12,480. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to assess individual/family/community health status, from a health promotion, disease prevention and behavior change perspective. Demonstrated ability to plan, implement and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs. Ability to work effectively independently and in interdisciplinary teams/groups and in community partnerships. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain good public relations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to provide public health nursing service according to Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice and CARNA Standards of Practice. Working knowledge of computer applications including basic word processing, email, internet use, and data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Bachelor of Nursing (BN) is preferred, but other skills and experience relevant to public health nursing will be considered.
