Your Opportunity:

Located just a few short minutes north of Edmonton, the 167-bed Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) serves the community of Saint Albert, north Edmonton, and the surrounding area, and delivers over 2,800 babies annually. The SCH is provincially recognized for its innovative obstetrical program, birth and post-natal care specialties delivering an enhanced patient experience. In this Registered Nurse position working with obstetrical patients, you will have the opportunity to use your advanced clinical skills to perform a variety of nursing duties by administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. As the successful candidate, you demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, have a thorough understanding of the antepartum period, the labour and delivery process and the immediate postpartum period, and possesses extensive knowledge of newborn assessment and breastfeeding. You have experience handling obstetrical emergencies and caring for both low and medium-risk women with obstetrical complications and/or medical conditions complicated by pregnancy. The primary responsibility in the Labour & Delivery, Obstetrical Operating Room, and Assessment/Induction Room with responsibility to provide cross coverage to antepartum as required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum Two (2) years obstetrics nursing experience within the last five (5) years. Advanced educational studies on obstetrics, including fetal monitoring or midwifery, and a certificate in Newborn Resuscitation are required. Successful completion of a medication exam is required at the time of interview. CPR (BCLS) through Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice will be considered. Operating room and post-anesthetic recovery room experience. Preference will be given to applicants with recent experience in a level two or three level care facility Obstetrics Department.
