Your Opportunity:

The successful candidate will report to the Clinic Manager of the Medical Outpatient Unit and Adult Day Medicine. The Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Registered Nurse works the majority of the time in the Adult Day Medicine Unit located at the Kaye Edmonton Clinic. The OPAT Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care by providing direct care. This RN assesses patient/family education needs and plans, implements and evaluates education strategies. This is a fast paced environment with multiple competing demands. The RN must be able to respond to adverse patient events quickly and competently. Care is provided to a variety of patients from different adult specialties requiring IV Antimicrobial Infusions. The OPAT RN must be competent in a number of medical procedures including but not limited to monitoring drains, care of central lines, blood withdrawal from central lines, and wound care.

In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Charge nurse experience, able to work independently and assist in all aspects of a medical emergency. Ability to multitask, work under tight time lines with complex patients. Experience with basic and complex wound care, highly organized and must have excellent communication skills (ability to communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team) and strong assessment and critical thinking skills. The physical ability to perform CPR on Adult Clients is required. A medium to high level of physical activity is required to fulfill job requirements. Includes but not limited to, reaching above shoulders frequently, looking up frequently, and the ability to assist/transfer patients with mobility limitations is required. Minimum of two years adult acute care experience in Medicine or Surgery is required. IV certification and experience, as well as, use and care of experience with Venous Access Device is required. Connect Care experience is required. Must be able to lift and carry 10-15kg regularly. Must be able to participate in hands on care of patients (ie: transfers, bariatric clients, bending, twisting, walking distances).

Preferred Qualifications:

Wound care assessment skills are preferred. Must have excellent communication and documentation skills and the ability to participate as an interdisciplinary team member. This is a fast paced clinic requiring staff to stand for long periods, must be able to adapt to a rapidly changing environment utilizing critical thinking skills.
