Your Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse who will work within a dynamic environment that is designed to meet the needs of individuals who present with a combination of dementia syndrome & complex behavioral issues. Residents may exhibit challenging, unpredictable responsive behaviors that require enhanced staffing expertise to provide care and oversight. Reporting to the Relief Team Program Manager, you will play a key role in providing Registered Nurse coverage of clinical practice including: direct care provider; critical thinker, assessor and interpreter; participant, developer and/or leader in quality improvement activities, decision maker & problem solver; case manager; resident advocate; leader & mentor. As the Registered Nurse, you will teach, counsel and advocate enhancing health & well-being through the creation, interpretation, dissemination & implementation of evidence-informed healthcare practices and processes. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Depth and breadth of nursing knowledge and complex reasoning reflective of level of education. Strong communication skills utilizing a variety of modalities (verbal, written, active listening) and ability to adapt communication style to meet the needs of specific residents, relay resident information to primary health care provider(s), on and off-site, in a timely, concise, accurate manner. Assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in resident physical, emotional, psychological status. Effectively uses information and communication technology to improve inter-professional person-centered care. Complex reasoning skills reflective of level of education to make decisions in strenuous and changing environments by compiling information from multiple sources. Sound judgment. Displays an attitude that conveys respect and dignity of all persons. Independent and shared accountability in a just culture. Compassionate and caring attitude. Contributes to the quality improvement process by working with others to identify and implement areas for improvement and improved service delivery and resident outcomes. McMaster Case Management training.

Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing is required. Equivalent combinations of education & experience may be considered. Minimum 2 years clinical experience applicable to the service area(s). Previous experience performing comprehensive assessments utilizing the RAI suite of tools. CNA Certification in Gerontological Nursing. Supportive Pathways and/or U-First training. PIECES training. Previous experience in the assignment of care & supervision of unregulated health providers.
