Your Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced, caring, strength-based professional to complement our multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate for this nursing position will make decisions as to appropriate interventions within their scope of practice to meet patient population needs. Their purpose will be to provide direct, low-barrier, trauma-informed nursing care to individuals living with physical and mental health needs, substance use disorder(s), and/or facing structural barriers to care (e.g., poverty, homelessness). As such, they should have working knowledge of and experience in the identification and management of complex addiction, mental illness, and chronic disease. They may provide health care services such as physical, psychosocial and substance use assessment; HIV, HCV and STI education, testing and treatment; medication administration and titration; overdose prevention (e.g. Naloxone education) and response. The ASE Nurse will contribute to the development of client-specific care plans and share evidence-based and best practices from a nursing perspective to develop holistic and culturally appropriate services to address clients’ complex needs. They will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment. There will be a great deal of opportunity for growth within this position. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with individuals who have substance use and mental health concerns. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

3-5 years relevant addiction and mental health experience Experience with application of the Mental Health Act, Community Treatment Orders and associated processes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to incorporate the principles of recovery-oriented, trauma-informed and/or anti-oppressive practice into working with individuals living with mental health and substance use. Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from a harm reduction perspective.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of Edmonton and area addiction and mental health resources, particularly inner-city resources.
