Job Description


This position is responsible for the validation and approval of data generated from the laboratory production, including both internal and external proficiency tests and specific client’s projects, according to the requirements of the technical aspects of the current Quality Management System.

The Quality Control Chemist also provides specialized technical input during the pre; in-process and post stages of production where necessary and participates in the investigation for any quality related issues.

  • Provides final Quality Control validation of all laboratory results and prepare the certificate of analysis. Normally this involves comparison and validation of results from different scheme codes. Takes corrective actions if results from different analysis are outside expected norms.
  • Involved with the Quality Action investigation and client contact.
  • Sets up Proficiency tests, tracks the work through the lab and provide QC validation of results.
  • Ensures that expected due dates are met. Evaluates the published results of the tests and recommends corrective action as necessary.
  • Maintains QC control charts on selected scheme codes.
  • Monitors results and provides feedback to Department Supervisors.
  • Provides a tracking and troubleshooting service to sales and customer service for jobs that are passing through the lab. Identifies problems and recommends solutions in order to satisfy client needs.
  • Involved in internal audits and Quality action investigation from time to time.
  • Provides technical input to all departments, as requested.
  • Maintains a clean working environment.
  • Follow all company health, safety and environmental policies.
  • May occasionally travel for training or support at other branch laboratories.
  • May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a BSc degree (or equivalent) is required.
  • 3 years previous experience in laboratory and /or mineral operation is required.
  • Previous experience with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Quality Control related role is preferred.
  • Strong practical knowledge in geochemical analysis and statistical analysis is required.
  • equivalent.
  • Knowledge of another language besides English (French or Spanish) is an asset.
  • Ability to manage several projects within widely diverse areas of expertise whilst providing technical support for completing projects as needed.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
  • Ability to compose clear and concise technical reports.
  • Candidates must be proficient in using various type of computer software (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
  • Ability to work well with others & independently.
  • Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
  • Works well under pressure.
  • Ensures full compliance with the company’s Quality Management, Health & Safety, Code of Integrity, and Professional Conduct policies.
