WorksInspector

Works Inspector

The District of Mission is seeking a self-motivated, detail-orientated, and enthusiastic individual to join the Engineering & Public Works Department as a Works Inspector.

This work involves performing a variety of regulatory and field inspections and associated duties related to sewer, waterworks, roadway, drainage and other public works construction projects performed for the municipality, including: ensuring conformance with applicable bylaws, regulations, and other known standards; ensuring conformance with plans, specifications, schedules; attending pre-construction meetings; coordinating work between contractors, municipal crews and other agencies; monitoring volumes and quantities for release of security request; technical field survey work in support of departmental activities, assist to co-ordinate the work of others; assist in training staff.

You will have considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment used in the installations, construction and maintenance of municipal engineering services and facilities such as road works, curb, gutter and sidewalks; street lighting; traffic signals; sanitary and storm sewer systems; and water systems and other related services and facilities. You will also have a working knowledge of methods, principles, techniques and equipment related to survey work, GPS, GIS and testing including related calculations in applying trigonometric and geometric formula.

The ideal candidate will have an intermediate Certificate of Technology in civil engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Course of study to include public works inspection, asphalt and materials testing, and surveying and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in inspection or public works construction, or recognized equivalent. You will be an ASTTBC (Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of BC) Certified Public Works Inspector, possess an Occupational First Aid Level 1, and a valid BC driver’s license.

The 2020 hourly rate for this full-time CUPE position is $40.96 per hour plus an excellent benefit package including the Municipal Pension Plan. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for 9 days and 1 day off every two weeks).
